Stream-cutting machines. - A continuouslymoving stream of concrete or like plastic material in a tile or slab-making machine is adapted to be cut lengthwise into strips by means which are so arranged or shaped that the period of a cutting operation is more prolonged than usual, the cutting consisting either of a set of rotatablymounted disc knives c<1>, c<2>, c<3> arranged end to end and so that each successive disc cuts the material a little deeper than the preceding disc, as shown in Fig. 1, or of a fixed blade l having its cutting edge set at an upward and backward inclination to the stream, as shown in Fig. 3. The discs c<1>, c<2> are rotatably mounted in yoke-pieces d bolted to a bridge plate e, and the disc c<3> is carried from the plate e by a yoke d', a spring h being disposed between the yoke d<1> and bridge. To ensure that the disc c<3> shall cut very nearly to the bottom of the stream, the yoke d<1> may have lugs adapted to engage stops k. The edges of the discs may have annular projections c<4>, c<5>, c<6> in order to round the edges of the tiles. Where two or more side-by-side sets of discs are employed, the axles i may carry two or more discs. The cutter l, Fig. 3, is mounted from a bridge by means of axles m, m<1> in yoke-pieces n, n<1> which are suspended by bolts o, o<1>. The yoke n<1> is sustained by a spring q, which is attached to the bolt o<1>. Lugs r on the yoke n<1> and stops s on the plate e ensure that the blade shall cut nearly to the bottom of the stream. The edge of the knife may be progressively developed so as to give any desired shape to the upper and lower edges of the tiles. A separate former u may be provided to round the edges of the tiles. The pallets may be grooved to receive the cutting blade or discs. The discs or blade may be supported from a bridge below the stream or from bridges above and below the, stream.
