Jan. 27, 1926, [Convention date]. 2-Alkylaminopyridines, in which the number of carbon atoms of the alkyl group or groups exceeds two, are prepared by treating a 2-halogenpyridine with an alkylamine, or by interaction of an alkali metal compound of 2-aminopyridine with an alkyl halide. The products possess therapeutic properties. Examples are given of the preparation of 2-diethylaminopyridine by heating 2-chlorpyridine with diethylamine, and of 2-isopropylaminopyridine by heating isopropyl iodide with 2-aminopyridine and sodium amide. 2-Allylaminopyridine, 2-isoamylaminopyridine, and 2-cetylaminopyridine are similarly prepared by interaction of the sodium compound of 2- aminopyridine with allyl bromide, isoamyl iodide, and cetyl halide respectively.
