Retractive switches; switches, latching and unlatching.-In a press for dicing out leather &c. an electromagnet co-operates with a fixed arcuate armature 41. Duplicate control switches operated either from a hand lever 21 or from a pedal 52 comprise a stationary bush with contacts 79, 80, 81 connected to a rheostat a<2> and to supply wires a, b, and two rotatably and axially movable conducting rings 90, 88 with brushes 82, 83 connected to the magnet. Rotation of the rings is effected by a rack or a crank from the operating means, a pin on a disc 86 engaging a stationary cam to throw the rings axially into effective position against spring pressure, and a latch holding the rings displaced until the restoring movement. On depression of the handle 21 circuit is made through the circuit A, a, 79, 82, magnet 83, 80, B, and the press is actuated. Partial release of the handle turns the rings to the position shown in Fig. 10, and circuit is made through A, rheostat a<2>, 81, 83, magnet 82, 80, B, whereby a decreased and reversed current flows through and de-energizes the magnet.
