Abstract

262,787. Grusenmeyer, A. Dec. 8, 1925,. [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Back-pedalling brake and free-wheel arrangements.-The bore of the hub 4 is divided into four portions of different diameter, the end portions being screwed to receive the outer cones 8, 8<1> of ball bearings. The inner cone 5 is secured to the fixed axle 1 while the inner cone 5<1> is rotatable on the axle. The chain sprocket 6 is secured on the ccne 5<1>, the inner end of which is formed with a helical projection 6<1> engaging a corresponding part of the auxiliary adjustable clutch and brake cone 2. During forward pedalling, the cone 5<1> moves the cone 2 axially to bring teeth 10' on the end of the cone 2 into engagement with teeth 10 on the outer cone 8<1>. When free-wheeling, the teeth are disengaged as a result of the retarding effect of the springs 11 which act frictionallv on the cone and axle. Back pedalling moves the cone 2 towards the split brake drum 3 which is held against rotation by the key 7 and is expanded against the interior of the hub. The axle is drilled for lubrication, and oil retaining washers 12', 12' are provided.
