Electric speed indicators. - A continuous or alternating speed is measured by interrupting a continuous current at a frequency proportional to the speed to be measured, and indicating the frequency of the interruptions of the current. Any frequency meter of known type may be used, and means may be provided to prevent the meter being affected by variations in the voltage and the duration of contact. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which a rotary contact device 3 driven at a speed proportional to that to be measured interrupts a circuit containing a coil 4 of a frequency meter 2. A second coil 6 is provided to compensate for voltage variations. The coils 4, 6 may be arranged at right angles, one within the other, or may be arranged side-by-side with the current flowing in opposite directions. The arrangement shown in Fig. 5 is such that the measurement of the speed will be unaffected by the duration of the contact 3. A condenser 9 is charged through a rotary contact 10 and is discharged by the contact 3 through the frequency meter 2.
