Description
BOX IN PARTICULAR FOR E-CONNERCE
The present invention relates to a box, in particular for e-commerce, and a blank to be folded in order to erect such a box.
One object of the present invention is providing a box that can be rapidly erected from a blank and, once erected, is fairly stable.
According to the present invention, this object is achieved by means of a monolithic cardboard or corrugated board blank, wherein first, second, third and fourth parallel folding lines, and fifth, sixth, seventh and eight folding lines parallel to each other and orthogonal to said first, second, third and fourth parallel folding lines delimit a first row of a first top panel, a first side panel, a bottom panel, a second side panel, and a second top panel, and a second row of a third top panel, a third side panel, said bottom panel, a fourth side panel, and a fourth top panel, wherein said first and second rows are orthogonal to each other and form a cross centered on said bottom panel, wherein a respective corner panel connects each adjacent couple of contiguous side and top panels, wherein said first, fourth, fifth and eight folding lines have recti 1 i n ea r extensions in the respective contiguous corner panels, which are divided into a first triangular sub-corner panel, a square sub-corner panel and a second triangular sub-corner panel, respectively, wherein each square sub-corner panel has a diagonal folding line extending from a corner of the bottom panel, and wherein each second triangular sub-corner panel has an inclined folding line parallel to the respective diagonal folding line and extending from a distal corner of the third or fourth side panel, respectively.
Preferred features of the blank of the invention are disclosed by the claims dependent on claim 1, which follow.
A further subject-matter of the present invention is constituted by a box obtainable from the above disclosed blank by: - folding said first, second, third and fourth side panels of 900 in respect of the bottom panel, so as a rectangular lateral wall is formed by said side panels, - contemporaneously to the folding of said side panels, folding each corner panel about the respective diagonal folding line, so that each square sub-corner panel is folded in two overlapping semi-panels internally arranged alongside the first or second side panel, respectively, and each couple of first and second triangular sub-corner panels are overlapped and internally arranged alongside the first and second top panel, respectively, - folding said third and fourth top panels of 900 in respect of the respective side panel, so as they lie parallel to the bottom panel, -contemporaneously to the folding of said third and fourth top panels, folding each second triangular sub-corner panel about the respective inclined folding line, so that each second triangular sub-corner panel is folded in two overlapped semi-panels arranged alongside and beneath the third or fourth top panel, respectively, - folding said second top panel with the respective first triangular sub-corner panels of 900 in respect of the respective side panel, so as it lies parallel to the bottom panel and the third and fourth top panel, and - folding said first top panel with the respective first triangular sub-corner panels of 900 in respect of the respective side panel, so as it lies parallel to the bottom panel and the second, third and fourth top panels.
Preferred features of the box of the invention are disclosed by the claims dependent on claim 8, which follow.
The box of the invention can be quickly and easily erected on a pack bench due to the no-frills shape and absence of cooperating slots and tabs, allowing both time and labour cost savings, as well as a meaningful waste reduction.
The blank arrangement can save up to 20% material usage in comparison with conventional solutions.
The box of the invention provides increased impact protection during handling in the supply chain due to the webbed or folded corner panels, whose flutes, when present, are inclined, and in particular an increased impact resistance to drops.
The webbed corners also render the box of the invention suitably tamper-evident.
Further advantages and features of the present invention will be apparent from the following detailed description, given by way of non-limiting example with reference to the appended drawings, in which: figure 1 is a top plan view of a blank according to the invention, and figures 2a to 2i are perspective views illustrating successive steps of erection into a box of the blank of figure 1.
Figure 1 illustrates a monolithic blank of cardboard, corrugated board or the like cellulosic material, which is symmetric in respect of two orthogonal axes 10, 12 and generally shaped as a rhomb whose corners were cut away.
The blank has first, second, third and fourth folding lines 14a-d parallel to each other and to axis 10, and fifth, sixth, seventh and eight folding lines 16a-d parallel to each other and to the axis 12 and orthogonal to the first, second, third and fourth folding lines 16a-d.
The folding lines 14a-d, 16a-d delimit a first row of a first top panel 18, a first side panel 20a, a bottom panel 22, a second side panel 20b, and a second top panel 24, and a second row of a third top panel 26, a third side panel 20c, the bottom panel 22, a fourth side panel 20d, and a fourth top panel 28.
The first and second rows of panels are orthogonal to each other and form a cross centered on the bottom panel 22. The side panels 20a-d and bottom panel 22 are rectangular. The first top panel 18 has a proximal rectangular portion and a distal trapezoidal portion, and the second, third and fourth top panels 24, 26, 28 have a rectangular shape with cut distal corners. The first top panel 18 has a greater extension along the axis 12 than the second top panel 24.
A respective triangular corner panel 30 connects each adjacent couple of contiguous side and top panels.
The first 14a, fourth 14d, fifth 16a and eight 16d folding lines have rectilinear extensions in the respective contiguous corner panels 30, which are thereby divided into a first triangular sub-corner panel 32, a square sub-corner panel 34 and a second triangular sub-corner panel 36, respectively.
Each square sub-corner panel 34 has a diagonal folding line 38 extending from a corner of the bottom panel 22.
Each second triangular sub-corner panel 36 has an inclined folding line 40 parallel to the respective diagonal folding line 38 and extending from a distal corner of the third 20c or fourth 20d side panel, respectively.
A respective longitudinal slot 42 is present in a median portion of each of said diagonal folding lines 38, inclined folding lines 40 and extensions of the first 14a and fourth 14d folding lines.
Figures 2a to 2i illustrar_e successive steps of erection into a parallelepiped box of the previously disclosed flat blank.
First of all, the first, second, third and fourth side panels 20a-d are folded (figures 2a to 2c) of 90° in respect of the bottom panel 22, so as a rectangular lateral wall is formed by the side panels 20a-d (figure 2d). In such a configuration, each top panel 18, 24, 26, 28 keeps on lying in the same plane as the respectively contiguous side panel 20a-d.
The folding of the side panels 20a-d brings about contemporaneously the folding of each corner panel 30 about the respective diagonal folding line 38, so that each square sub-corner panel 34 is folded in two overlapped triangular semi-panels internally arranged alongside the first 20a or second 20h side panel, respectively, and each couple of first and second triangular sub-corner panels 32, 36 are overlapped and internally arranged alongside the first 18 or second 24 top panel, respectively.
Advantageously, each folded sub-corner square panel 34 is attached, e.g. by glue or an adhesive strip, to the alongside side panel 20a, 20b, so as it does not protrude inwards.
Then, the third 26 and fourth 28 top panels are folded of 900 in respect of the respective side panel 20c, 20d, so as they lie parallel to the bottom panel 22 (see figures 2e to 2g).
The folding of the third 26 and fourth 26 top panels brings about contemporaneously the folding of each second triangular sub-corner panel 36 about the respective inclined folding line 40, so that each second triangular sub-corner panel 36 is folded in two overlapped semi-panels arranged alongside and beneath the third 26 or fourth 28 top panel, respectively.
Successively, the second top panel 24 with the respective first triangular sub-corner panels 32 arranged alongside is folded of 90° in respect of the respective side panel 20b, so as it lies parallel to the bottom panel 22 and the third 26 and fourth 28 top panel (figure 2h).
Finally, the first top panel 18 with the respective first triangular sub-corner panels 32 arranged alongside is folded of 90° in respect of the respective side panel 20a, so as it lies parallel to the bottom panel 22 and the second 24, third 26 and fourth 28 top panels (figure 21).
Advantageously, the first top panel 18 is attached, e.g. by glue or an adhesive strip, on the second top panel 24, so as the first 18, second 24, third 26 and fourth 28 top panels form a cohesive top wall of the finished parallelepipedal box. Such an attachment is allowed by the greater extension of the first top panel 18 along the axis 12 than the second top panel 24.
It goes without saying that articles to be shipped by the box can be inserted therein after any suitable step of the above-disclosed erection process.
Of course, the principles of the invention remaining the same, the details of construction and embodiments may be widely varied with respect to those described purely by way of example, without thereby departing from the claimed scope. E.g., each of the folding lines may independently be a crease or score line, formed in any conventional way, such as by notching, scratching, incising, compressing, hemi-perforating and so on.
