Anthracene, dyes derived from.-Vat dyes are obtained by condensing arylketodihydrop-thiazines, dihalogenated in the methylene group, with o-diamines or their N-alkyl or N-aryl derivatives. or their nuclear substitution products, at least one of the components being an anthraqninone derivative. The condensation may be effected in an organic solvent with or without a condensing agent such as sodium acetate which absorbs water or acids. The dyes derived from nan-alkylated or non-arylated o-diamines are not fast to alkali but can be made fast by alkylation. the products being probably the same as when alkylated o-diamines are used in the first place. According to exampl.es, condensation products are produced from the following pairs of components :-(1) anthraquinone-dichlorketodihydro-2:1-thiazine and ophenylenediamine or 4 : 5-diamino-1 : 3-xylene or 1 : 2-diaminoanthraquinone. the product from the latter being then ethylated with toluenesulphonic ethyl ester; (2) anthraquinonedichlorketodihydro- 2 : 1-thiazine and 1-amino-2-toluidoanthraqninone; (3) p-tolyrketo-dichlordihydro-p-thiazine and 1 : 2- diaminoanthraquinone. The products are purified by means of hypochlorite solution and dye cotton from the vat in yellow to brown shades. p-Tolylketodihydro-p-thiazine is obtained by condensing p-amino-thio-m-cresol with chloracetic acid. Dihalogen derivatives of arylketodihydro-p thiazines are obtained by halogenating the parent bodies, for example by means of chlorine or sulphuryl chloride in presence of a diluent. 1-Amino-2-toluidoanthraquinone may be made from 1-amino-2-bromanthraquinone and p-tolui. dine.
