Abstract
261,085. Marks, E. C. R., (Grasselli Chemical Co.). Aug. 11, 1925. Crystallizing. - In producing crystals of substantially uniform size, a solution is circulated from a pipe 6 upwards through a suspension of crystals in a vessel which is either conical and has an angle below 60‹, or is formed of successively wider cylindrical portions 2, 3, 4. Large crystals fall through the narrow part 2 and are removed by a pipe 7. Seed crystals are formed in the solution by supplying a supersaturated solution by a pipe 12. The solution is discharged at the upper end 4 and passes over a heating-device 3 to dissolve small crystals, and through a pipe 8 to a vessel 9 in which it may be evaporated or heated, and to which fresh concentrated or supersaturated solution is added by a pipe 10 prior to return to the pipe 6. The walls of the crystallizing vessel may be insulated, cooled, or may be warmed to prevent the rapid cooling. Crystals may be separated at the base of each of the sections in order to obtain more than one size of crystal product.
