Abstract

261,079. Arrol &. Co., Ltd., Sir W., and Shepherd, R. G. Aug. 10, 1925. Band.-In a power navvy, excavator, &c., a single friction device is used alternatively as a clutch or as a brake to control lowering while the hoisting motor is stationary, and a single control, means operates together or independently the hoisting motor and another motor, such as a slueing or racking motor, whereby all the functions of the apparatus are controllable by three levers. As shown in a scoop arm excavator, a motor f drives a hoisting drum c through a gear wheel e and a friction clutch comprising one or more bands d, d<1> carried by the gear and applied by a weight g<6> acting through a bell crank lever g<2>, axial rod e<2>, pivoted levers h<2>, links i, sliding, members i<2> and cranks j ; the clutch is released by a foot-lever g<5>. During paying out, the geartng is held by an automatic solenoid brake, ratchet and pawl, &c. and the clutch is used as a brake. The motor f and a slueing motor n are controlled by a universal lever 1. The racking motor is governed by a control m which however may be connected with the hoisting control to be operated by a single lever.
