Endless-band tool machines. - A machine for stretching, slicking or putting-out hides and skins comprises a centrally applied clamping member by which the hide &c. is secured to a table associated therewith and tool-bearing endless belts by which the hide is stretched radially from the clamping member. The hide is supported on a. table 11 which is straddled by a frame 15, 16 supporting a rotatable and slidable sleeve 17 carrying the tools. The sleeve may be manually lifted by a lever 21 engaging a collar 19 and engageable with a catch 25. A frame comprising arms 29 secured to the sleeve carries rollers 31 over which run two belts 32 carrying the operating tools 33, the inner rollers being geared to a shaft 42 so that the belts run in opposite directions radially over the surface of the table and away from a clamping plate 68 carried by a rod 66 spring-mounted in the shaft 42. The shaft 42 is connected by a spline to a bevel gear 43 geared to a motor 49 mounted on the frame 15, 16. On a vertical shaft 51 driven by the motor is a double cam 53, 54 the face 54 of which engages the lever 21, when the lever is not manually removed from contact therewith, and thereby effects a periodic lifting of the sleeve and the tools. Whilst the tools are lifted from the work they are rotated through a small angle by a ratchet 60 operating on a toothed wheel 59 and actuated by a lever 61 engaged by the cam 53. The hide to be operated on is laid on a card 13 which is placed on the table beneath the central clamp, the sleeve and tools first having been manually lifted and retained by the catch 25.
