Abstract
The present invention relates to a cutter system for an electric shaver and/or trimmer, comprising a pair of comb-like cutting elements with cooperating toothed cutting edges and movably supported relative to each other by a support element, wherein lateral ends of at least one of said cutting elements are provided with lateral protection elements having rounded and/or chamfered edge contours for soft skin engagement, wherein said lateral protection element is integrally formed in one part with the cutting element by an end portion of the cutting element bent away from a skin contact surface thereof and enveloping a gap movably receiving the other cutting element and/or enveloping the support element.
Claims (21)
1. Cutter system for an electric shaver and/or trimmer, comprising a pair of cooperating cutting elements (4, 5) movably supported relative to each other by a support element (17), wherein lateral ends of at least one of said cutting elements (4) are provided with lateral protection elements (25) having rounded and/or chamfered edge contours for soft skin engagement, characterized in that said lateral protection elements are integrally formed in one part with the cutting element (4) by an end portion of the cutting element (4) bent or curved away from a skin contact surface thereof and enveloping a gap (16) movably receiving the other cutting element (5) and/or enveloping the support element (17).

Cutter system according to the preceding claim, wherein an outer contour of said lateral protection element (25), when viewed in a direction perpendicular to the skin contact surface (12), is L- or U-shaped with a first protective portion (25a) extending at a toothed cutting edge of the cutting element (4), a second protective portion (25b) extending along the lateral end (24) and a rounded corner protective portion (25c) connecting said first and second protective portions (25a, 25b), wherein each of said first, second and corner protective portions (25a, b, c) is bent or curved away from the skin contact surface (12).
3. Cutter system according to anyone of the preceding claims, wherein said lateral protection element (25) has a lateral bend radius (n) smaller than 500 pm or ranging from 500 to 1500 pm or 600 to 900 pm.
4. Cutter system according to anyone of the preceding claims, wherein said lateral protection element (25) has a vertical bending radius (rv) about a bending axis parallel to the skin contact surface (12) which is larger than 400 pm or ranging from 400 to 1000 pm or 500 to 800 pm.
5. Cutter system according to anyone of the preceding claims, wherein the lateral protection element (25) is protruding only in the direction away from the skin contact surface (12).

Cutter system according to anyone of the preceding claims, wherein a seaming portion (27) connecting a bent portion of the lateral protection element (25) to a substantially flat main portion of the cutting element (4) has a reduced thickness in comparison to the main portion and to said bent portion, and/or has a groove-like notch (26) along a path following the contour of the seaming portion (27).
7. Cutter system according to anyone of the preceding claims, wherein said lateral protection element (25) includes at least one slot (28) in a rounded corner portion of the lateral protection element (25).

Cutter system according to the preamble of claim 1 or anyone of the preceding claims, wherein said lateral protection element (25) is formed in part by the cutting element (4) and in part by the support element (17) which projects at least laterally beyond the cutting element (4), wherein said support element (17) and the cutting element (4) together define a rounded and/or chamfered contour for lateral soft skin engagement.

Cutter system according to the preceding claim, wherein a space (16) between said support element (17) and the cutter element (4) which space (16) receives the other cutting element (5), is filled by a filler material which forms a part of said rounded and/or chamfered contour of the lateral protection element (25).
10. Cutter system according to the preamble of claim 1 or anyone of the preceding claims, wherein said lateral protection element (25) is formed from a metal sheet having a sheet thickness of less than 200 pm.
11. Cutter system according to the preceding claim, wherein said metal sheet lateral protection element (25) is configured to envelop a top surface of the cutting element (4) as well as a bottom surface of the support element (17).
12. Cutter system according to the preceding claim, wherein said lateral protection element (25) has a ring-shape with two open end sides.

Cutter system according to the preamble of claim 1 or to any of the preceding claims, wherein one of said cutting elements (4) has thickened and/or rounded tooth tips (8) overhanging the tooth tips (9) of the other cutting element (5), wherein said overhanging tooth tips (8) are provided with a two-step rounding including a spherical or drop-shaped or pearl-shaped thickening (13) and a bend portion (6b) connecting said thickening (13) to a main tooth portion (6m) and bent away from the skin contact surface (12) of said main tooth portion (6m).

Cutter system according to the preceding claim, wherein - said bend tooth portion (6b) has a bending radius (R) smaller than 400 pm or ranging from 200 - 400 pm or 250 - 350 pm, and/or - said thickening (13) has a diameter (2r) ranging from 300 - 550 pm, and/or - an overhanging length (o) defining the length of the protrusion of the overhanging tooth tips (8) beyond the tooth tips of the other cutting element (5) ranging from 400 - 800 pm or 400 - 600 pm.

Cutter system according to anyone of the preceding claims, wherein the cutting teeth (6, 7), at a main tooth portion (6m) providing for cutting action, have a tooth width (tw) ranging from 250 - 550 pm and a thickness (t) ranging from 50 - 150 pm, wherein the cutting teeth (6) have a tooth height (h) including the rounded, thickened tooth tips (8) ranging from 300 - 550 pm and define a gap between neighboring cutting teeth, having a gap width (gw) ranging from 200 - 500 pm.
16. Cutter system according to anyone of the preceding claims, wherein the cutting teeth (6) of different rows (10, 11) of cooperating cutting teeth (6, 7) have skin contact surfaces (13) which are coplanar to each other and to an upper surface of lateral protection elements (25).

Cutter system according to anyone of the preceding claims, wherein one of the cutting elements (5) is sandwiched between the other cutting elements (4) and said support element (17), wherein at least one spacer (15) defines a gap (16) in which the sandwiched cutting element (5) is movably received, said spacer (15) and thus said gap (16) having a thickness larger than the thickness of the sandwiched cutting element (5) by an amount smaller than the diameter of hair to be cut, wherein said support element (17), said spacer (15) and one of the cutting elements (4) form a rigid sandwiching frame having a gap (16) in which the sandwiched cutting element (5) is slidably received.

Method of manufacturing a cutter system of anyone of the preceding claims, wherein the lateral protection elements (25) are formed by bending lateral end portions of the cutting element (4) away from the skin contact surface (12) such that the bent portions form a rounded and/or chamfered contour enveloping a gap movably receiving the other cutting element (5) and/or enveloping the support element (17).

Method according to the preceding claim, wherein the cutting teeth (6) of the cutting element (4) and the lateral protection elements (25) are formed by bending of the lateral edge portions of the cutting element (4) into the same bending direction and/or in one bending step and/or using the same bending tool and/or holding the cutting element (4) in the same holding tool.

Method according to one of the preceding claims, wherein the lateral end portions of the cutting element (4) to be bent to form the lateral protection elements (25) are weakened and/or thinned before bending by means of removing material from the cutting element (4) to form a groove-like notch (26).
21. Electric shaver and/or trimmer, comprising a cutter system which is configured in accordance with one of claims 1 to 17.
