Description
Removable Door Liner
FIELD
[0001] The present invention is related to a removable liner and door for use in cooking devices, and method of cleaning thereof.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Owners of cooking devices, such as range cookers, face many challenges due to the weight of the components of the cooker. The doors of these cookers are designed to create insulation between the hot oven cavity and the oven door.
[0003] One problem associated with this arrangement is that the inner surface of the doors typically become encrusted with food residues, such as fats, oils and other foodstuffs, which are deposited on the surface during cooking. This problem is amplified by the heat of the oven, which acts to bake on the deposited food residue, making it very difficult to remove and creating a visible mess.
[0004] Cooking devices such as range cookers are designed for continuous, high-temperature cooking, often being left on for long periods. This high and constant heat further exacerbates the problem of baking the food residue to the inner surface of the door.
[0005] Unclean inner surfaces can lead to several problems, such as lower efficiency of the cooker due to inefficient heat distribution, increased fire risk and unwanted odour present in food that has been cooked in the cooker.
[0006] Cleaning the door liners is possible, but difficult. Cleaning requires either scrubbing of the inner surface in position, or removal of the door, which can be extremely heavy. Cleaning in position may require the user to remain in a bent-over or kneeling position for substantial periods of time, while removing the door may put the user in danger of injury, if they are not sufficiently strong enough, or have suitable lifting technique. Furthermore, the cleaning of the inner surface often requires the use of rough cleaning pads, such as abrasive scouring pads, which may leave the surface of the door scratched.
SUMMARY
[0007] According to the present invention, there is provided an apparatus and method as set forth in the appended claims. Other features of the invention will be apparent from the dependent claims, and the description which follows.
[0008] According to an aspect of the invention, there is provided a door for a cooking device comprising a body section, and a removable liner removably coupled to the body section, wherein the removable liner comprises a, substantially planar cover section, and wherein, when the removable liner is coupled to the body section, the cover section is in contact with the body section.
[0009] By providing a door with a removable liner, the liner may be more easily cleaned by a user, without the need for lifting of the whole door, or the need for excessive bending or crouching for prolonged periods.
[0010] The body section may comprise one or more hinge sections to allow for connection to the cooking device, such that the door may be moved between a closed position and an open position.
[0011] The contact between the cover section and the body section may be contact across a majority of a major face of the cover section and a major face of the body section, preferably leaving substantially no opening or cavity between the cover section and the body section.
[0012] The removable liner may comprise one or more lips extending from the cover section, the one or more lips being configured to extend into a cavity of a cooking device when the door is in a closed position. The lips of the removable liner ensure that only the removable liner is in contact with the inside environment of the cooker. This advantageously reduces or stops completely the build-up of dirt and residue from inside the cooker on any other part of the cooker door, thereby ensuring the removable liner is the only internal part of the cooker door that needs to be cleaned.
[0013] The one or more lips may extend from one or more edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0014] The one or more lips may be perpendicular to a major plane of the removable liner.
[0015] The one or more lips may be present on opposite edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0016] The removable liner may be rectangular. When the removable liner is rectangular, the one or more lips may be present on opposite longest edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0017] The one or more lips may be present on a single edge of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0018] The one or more lips may be present on at least two edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0019] The one or more lips may be present on two edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0020] The one or more lips may extend along the full length of the one or more edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0021] The one or more lips may be widest at a centre point, and may gradually decrease in width towards each of the ends of the lip.
[0022] The door may be configured such that when the door is in the closed position, only a first face and the one or more lips of the removable liner are exposed to a cavity of the cooking device. This advantageously ensures that any dirt or residue from inside the cavity of the cooking device is captured on a single face and lips of the removable liner; therefore, reducing the area that is needed to be cleaned.
[0023] The removable liner may comprise one or more attachment elements.
[0024] The one or more attachment elements may extend from the removable liner in a direction substantially opposite to the direction of extension of the one or more lip. The one or more attachment elements may allow for attachment of the removable liner to the body section.
[0025] The one or more attachment elements may extend from one or more edges of the removable liner. The one or more lips may extend from a different one or more edges of the removable liner.
[0026] Each of the one or more attachment elements may be hook-type attachment elements. Each of the one or more attachment elements may be receivable in one or more corresponding apertures in the first liner.
[0027] The door may comprise a seal around a part of the body section, such that when the door is in the closed position, the inner environment of the oven cavity is isolated from the outer environment.
[0028] The seal may be a rope seal.
[0029] According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a cooking device comprising one or more of the doors as described above.
[0030] By ensuring that the removable liner is the only component of the door in contact with the internal environment of the cooking device, the general wear and tear of the cooking device, due to cooking residue and dirt, is reduced, thus increasing the lifetime of the cooking device, and saving the user money.
[0031] According to a third aspect of the invention, there is provided a removable door liner for a door of a cooking device, wherein the removable liner comprises a substantially planar cover section adapted, in use to be in contact with the door.
[0032] The removable liner according to the third aspect of the invention may comprise one or more lips extending from the cover section, the one or more lips being configured to extend into a cavity of a cooking device when the door is in a closed position.
[0033] The one or more lips of the removable liner may extend from one or more edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0034] The one or more lips of the removable liner may extend from one or more edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0035] The one or more lips of the removable liner may be perpendicular to a major plane of the removable liner.
[0036] The one or more lips of the removable liner may be present on opposite edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0037] The removable liner may be rectangular, and when the removable liner is rectangular, the one or more lips may be present on opposite longest edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0038] The one or more lips of the removable liner may be present on a single edge of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0039] The one or more lips of the removable liner may be present on at least two edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0040] The one or more lips of the removable liner may be present on two edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0041] The one or more lips of the removable liner may extend along the full length of the one or more edges of the cover section of the removable liner.
[0042] The one or more lips of the removable liner may be widest at a centre point, and may gradually decrease in width towards each of the ends of the lip.
[0043] The removable liner may comprise one or more attachment elements.
[0044] The one or more attachment elements of the removable liner may extend from the removable liner in a direction substantially opposite to the direction of extension of the one or more lip. The one or more attachment elements of the removable liner according to the second example of the invention may allow for attachment of the removable liner to a door of a cooking device.
[0045] The one or more attachment elements of the removable extend from one or more edges of the removable liner. The one or more lips of the removable liner according to the second example of the invention may extend from a different one or more edges of the removable liner.
[0046] The one or more attachment elements of the removable liner may be hook-type attachment elements.
[0047] The removable liner may therefore be cleaned when separated from the door and cooking device. The removable liner may also be replaced completely with a new removable liner, thus providing a more cost-effective way of maintaining the condition of the cooking device, without having to replace the door or cooking device entirely.
[0048] According to a fourth aspect of the invention, there is provided a method of cleaning a door for a cooking device, comprising the steps of removing a removable liner from a body section of the door, when the door is in the open position, cleaning the removable liner; and attaching the clean removable liner to the body section, when the door is in the open position.
[0049] The above invention provides a door liner, and a door for a cooking device, and a method of cleaning a door, that may allow for easier cleaning of the door liner, by a user. The removable liner allows the part of the door that is in contact with the internal environment of the cooking device to be cleaned away from the cooking device, e.g. at a sink or outside. This not only reduces the stress on a user, i.e. bending or kneeling when cleaning a door liner in situ, but also allows the user to remove the dirty door liner to a cleaning area, thus reducing the risk of getting dirt or residue on or around the rest of the cooking device, during cleaning.
[0050] All of the features described herein may be combined with any of the above aspects, in any combination.
[0051] Although a few preferred embodiments of the present invention have been shown and described, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications might be made without departing from the scope of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.

When the attachment elements 212 are tab-style attachment elements, the corresponding apertures 216 may be angled to align with the angle of the tab-style attachment elements.
[0069] In one example, the body section 202 may comprise a protruding section 220, as shown in FIG. 6a. The size of the protruding section may correspond to the size and shape of the cavity 300 and cavity surround 302. In this example, the inner face 205 of the body section 202 is the cavity-facing side of the protruding section. The protruding section is configured such that part of the protruding section is in contact with the cavity surround 302 when the door 200 is in a closed configuration.
[0070] The body section 202 and removable liner 206 are configured such that when the door 200 is in the closed position, the body section 202 protrudes into the cavity surround, and the removable liner 206 is the only part of the door 200 that is exposed to the internal environment of the cooking device 100. In particular, only a first face and the lips 210 of the removable liner 206 are exposed to the internal environment of the cooking device 100.
[0071] A seal (not shown) may be present around the edge of a part of the body section 202, for example, the protruding section. The seal may form a continuous seal surrounding the edge of a part of the body section 202. The seal is positioned such that when the door 200 is in the closed position, the inner environment of the oven cavity is isolated from the outer environment.
[0072] In another example, the door 200 may comprise a first liner (not shown) located between the body section 202 and the removable liner. The first liner may be removably coupled with the inner face 205 of the body section 202. The first liner may be fixedly coupled with the inner face 205 of the body section 202, such that the first liner is located on the side of the body section 202 facing the oven cavity 300. The first liner may be integral with the body section 202, such that the first liner and the body section 202 are a single unit. The first liner may be rectangular, or square. In other examples, the first liner may be another quadrilateral shape, or circular. The shape of the first liner may correspond to the shape of the body section 202. The first liner may have dimensions of approximately 250 mm to 350 mm by 80 mm to 400 mm; or more preferably 270 mm to 330 mm by 100 mm to 350 mm; or still more preferably 290 mm to 315 mm by 150 mm to 300 mm; or still more preferably 305 mm to 310 mm by 160 mm to 280 mm; or most preferably 307 mm by 163 mm to 265 mm. The first liner may be metallic, for example, stainless steel, iron, aluminium, alloys or mild steel. The first liner may be coated in a powder coat.
[0073] The first liner may have one or more major faces. When the first liner has one major face, the first liner has one or more side walls extending from the one major face. The one or more side walls allow for the first liner to be connected to the body section 202. When the first liner has two major faces, the first liner has one or more side walls extending between the two major faces. One of the major faces and side walls allow for the first liner to be connected to the body section 202.
[0074] The surface area of the one or more major faces of the first liner may be smaller than the surface area of the inner face 205 of the body section 202.
[0075] A seal (not shown) may be present around the edge of the first liner, such that the seal is in contact with the one or more side walls of the first liner and the inner face 205 of the body section 202. The seal may form a continuous seal surrounding the edge of the first liner. The seal is positioned such that when the door 200 is in the closed position, the inner environment of the oven cavity 300 is isolated from the outer environment.
[0076] When the door 200 of the cooking device 100 is in the closed position, the one or more minor faces 210 of the removable liner 206 may extend into the cavity surround 302 of the cooking device 100, such that only the one or more lips 210 and a first face of the removable liner 206 are exposed to the cavity 300 of the cooking device 100.
[0077] FIG. 7 is a flow diagram of a method of cleaning the door 200 of the cooking device 100. The method comprises a first step 402 of removing the removable liner 206 from the body section 202 when the door 200 is in the open position. In step 404, a user may clean the removable liner 206 away from the cooking device 100. In step 406, the clean removable liner 206 is attached to the body section 202, when the door 200 is in the open position.
[0078] The removable liner 206 may also be replaced completely, with a new removable liner 206 [0079] The term range cooker may refer to any freestanding cooking device with one or more ovens. Range cookers may be gas type, electric type, or dual fuel type. For the purposes of this invention, the term range cooker may also include AGA cooker ovens and the like.
