Abstract
A load handling apparatus (10) comprises an elongate mast assembly (12) and a conveying arrangement (14) on the mast assembly (12) to convey an article. The conveying arrangement (14) is movable along the mast assembly (12). A carriage (18) is provided on the mast assembly (12) to carry the conveying arrangement (14). The conveying arrangement (14) is detachably mounted on the carriage (18). A movement arrangement (20) is fastened to the carriage (18). The movement arrangement (20) is for moving the carriage (18) and the conveying arrangement (14) along the mast assembly (12).
Claims (28)
1. A load handling apparatus comprising: an elongate mast assembly; a conveying arrangement on the mast assembly to convey an article, the conveying arrangement being movable along the mast assembly; a carriage on the mast assembly to carry the conveying arrangement, wherein the conveying arrangement is detachably mounted on the carriage; and a movement arrangement fastened to the carriage, the movement arrangement being for moving the carriage and the conveying arrangement along the mast assembly.
2. A load handling apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the conveying arrangement and the carriage comprise mounting formations to mount the conveying arrangement on the carriage.
3. A load handling apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the mounting formations comprise first and second receiving formations, the carriage comprising the first receiving formation, and the conveying arrangement comprising the second receiving formation.
4. A load handling apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the first receiving formation comprise two opposed holding members for holding the second receiving formation, the holding members of the first receiving formation comprising an outer holding member and an inner holding member.
5. A load handling apparatus according to claim 3 or 4, wherein the first receiving formation receives the second receiving formation to mount the conveying arrangement on the carriage.
6. A load handling apparatus according to claim 5, wherein the first receiving formation comprises two opposed holding members for holding the second receiving formation, the holding members comprising an outer holding member and an inner holding member.
7. A load handling apparatus according to claim 6, wherein the first receiving formation includes guide elements on each holding member to guide the second receiving formation between the holding members.

A load handling apparatus according to any of claims 3 to 7, wherein the mounting formations comprise two of the first receiving formations and two of the second receiving formations, the carriage comprising the two first receiving formations, and the conveying arrangement comprising the two second receiving formations each first receiving formation receiving a respective one of the second receiving formations to mount the conveying arrangement on the carriage.

A load handling apparatus according to claim 8, wherein each first receiving formation comprises two opposed holding members for holding the respective second receiving formation, the holding members of each first receiving formation comprising an outer holding member and an inner holding member.
10. A load handling apparatus according to claim 9, wherein each first receiving formation includes guide elements on each holding member to guide the respective second receiving formation between the holding members.
11. A load handling apparatus according to claim 9 or 10, wherein the mast assembly defines an elongate main channel in which the conveying arrangement and the carriage are received, the conveying arrangement and the carriage being movable along the main channel.
12. A load handling apparatus according to claim 13, wherein the mast assembly comprises an elongate mast component and a base arrangement, the mast component extending upwardly from the base arrangement, and the mast component defining the elongate main channel.
13. A load handling apparatus according to claim 12, wherein the mast component comprises a flange member extending over the main channel, the flange member defining a subsidiary channel portion in the main channel, the channel portion extending the length of the main channel.

A load handling apparatus according to claim 12 or 13, wherein the mast component comprises opposed flange members extending over the main channel, each flange member defining opposite subsidiary channel portions in the main channel, each subsidiary channel portion extending the length of the main channel.
15. A load handling apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the carriage comprises two bearings, each bearing being received in a respective subsidiary channel portion, thereby attaching the carriage to the mast component.

A load handling apparatus according to claim 14 or 15, wherein the conveying arrangement comprises a main member received in the main channel to attach the conveying arrangement to the mast assembly, the main member comprising opposite side elements, and a respective bearing projects outwardly from each side element.
17. A load handling apparatus according to any of claims 8 to 16, wherein the carriage includes a fastening element to fasten the carriage to the movement arrangement.
18. A load handling apparatus according to claim 17, comprising a connecting member extending between the first receiving formations, the fastening element being attached to the connecting member.
19. A load handling apparatus according to claim 17 or 18, wherein the fastening element comprises a buckle through which the flexible elongate member can be threaded to fasten the flexible elongate member to the buckle.
20. A load handling apparatus according to any preceding claim, wherein the movement arrangement comprises a driving device and a flexible elongate member attached to the driving device, the flexible elongate member being fastened to the carriage at one end region of the flexible elongate member.
21. A load handling apparatus according to claim 20 when dependent upon any of claims 17 to 19, wherein the flexible elongate member is fastened to the fastening element, the fastening element thereby fastening the flexible elongate member to the carriage.

A load handling apparatus according to claim 20 or 21 , wherein the flexible elongate member is fixedly fastened to the mast assembly at the opposite end region of the flexible elongate member, and a pulley is provided on the driving device, the flexible elongate member extending between the mast assembly and the driving device around the pulley.
23. A load handling apparatus according to claim 22 when dependent upon claim 21 , comprising a further fastening element to fasten the flexible elongate member to the mast assembly, the further fastening element being provided on the mast component.
24. A load handling apparatus according to claim 20 or 21 , wherein the flexible elongate member is fixedly fastened to the driving device at the opposite end region of the flexible elongate member.
25. A load handling apparatus according to claim 24 when dependent upon claim 21 , comprising a further fastening element to fasten the flexible elongate member to the driving device, the further fastening element being provided on the driving device.
26. A carriage for use with a load handling apparatus, the carriage comprising: a first receiving formation for holding a second receiving formation, the second receiving formation being on a component of the lifting apparatus; wherein the first receiving formation comprises two opposed holding members; and the carriage further includes a fastening element on the first receiving formation to fasten the carriage to a movement arrangement of the lifting apparatus.
27. A carriage according to claim 26, comprising two of the first receiving formations and a connecting member extending between the first receiving formations, the fastening element being attached to the connecting member.
28. A carriage according to claim 26 or 27, comprising two bearings, each bearing extending from a respective receiving formation.
