260,319. Wilding, S. W., and Amalgamated Dental Co., Ltd. June 27, 1925. Teeth, artificial.-In a denture having a translucent gum facing and a backing between the gum facing and the base material of the denture to control the colour tone of the facing, the backing is formed of a phenol-aldehyde condensation product which will harden on heating. Pigments such as zinc oxide, barium sulphate, or tin oxide are incorporated in the backing to give the required opacity and colour. The condensation product is preferably prepared by boiling equal parts of phenol and 40 per cent formaldehyde solution together with 0.2 per cent or less of caustic soda. A solution of the backing material may be applied to the denture or to the back of the gum facing, or a compound strip, or two separate strips, of facing and backing material may be applied to the denture. The translucent facing may consist of the same material as that used for the backing but without the added pigment.
