Detecting, indicating, and locating faults.-In the system claimed in the parent Specification for selectively detecting a branch conductor affected by an earth in a high-tension network, acoustic devices are connected in the branch circuits for indicating the higher harmonics. A telephone H is connected in turn across the ammeters AR, AS. AT in the phase conductors R, S, T of a branch circuit Zw to be tested and indicates, by the loudness of the sound, the presence of higher harmonic currents due to a fault on one main. The loudness of the sound may be adjusted by means of a potentiometer resistance P. Currents of the fundamental frequency may be suppressed by connecting a condenser in series with the telephone, or by connecting a resistance in series with the telephone and a filter circuit, consisting of a condenser and inductance tuned to the fundamental frequency, in parallel with the telephone- The plug B may be replaced by a changeover switch with a rotating contact. The telephone receiver may be used in combination with soundamplifying devices.
