Abstract

259,564. Turrettini, H. F. A. Oct. 8, 1925, [Convention date]. Thermo electric batteries.- The sections of the conductors of thermo-electric couples for apparatus utilizing the Peltier cooling effect are in the same ratio as their resistivities. In one, form, the couples comprise antimony sectors 2, Fig. 4, disposed between groups of bismuth alloy sectors, the sectors being connected at their inner cold ends to copper rings 6 and perforated towards their outer ends, which are connected in series by copper plates 10, so as to facilitate the dissipation of the heat due to the Joule and the inverse Peltier effects. In a modification, the couples are of U-shape, while in another arrangement they are of L-shape. Fig. 9 shows a modification in which the couples are arranged in coaxial groups, the cold joints 6<1> - - 6<111> of which absorb the Joule heat, while the hot joints are immersed in a vessel 12 containing water. In another arrangement, a central group of couples is surrounded by concentric rings of couples the lengths of which are progressively shorter so as to give a stepped profile to the apparatus, while in another modification, the concentric rings are shaped to give a curved outline to the apparatus. Fig. 22 shows a further arrangement comprising a series of adjacent metal plates.
