Abstract

A freestanding, portable martial arts dummy, Makiwara board or similar exercise apparatus comprises one or more interlocking, attachable modules 2, 4, 11 capable of being arranged in various configurations on a portable base 1 comprising at least one interlocking attachable part. The modules may comprise electronic devices and mechanisms for feedback and sensors 3, 5 that preferably branch out in various directions and connect directly or indirectly to an electronic module. The electronic module may or may not include computational or programmable elements.

Description

PORTABLE FREESTANDING MARTIAL ARTS BASE MODULE
Field of Invention
This invention relates generally to exercise devices and more especially to a portable freestanding device for the assembly of various devices for exercise and martial arts training.
Background of the Invention
Practitioners in martial arts often use various devices to simulate an opponent and thereby enabling the martial artist to practice the movements they are learning. One particular device of interest in martial arts and Kung Fu is the Wooden dummy referred to either as Mook Jung,Mek, Wing Chun dummy, or Wooden Man. Such a dummy is in the form of a cylindrical vertically extending body that includes several outwardly extending arms, and a forward and downward extending leg. Such dummies are often mounted on stands, other dummies are supported from a wall mounting structure and are carried on a pair of horizontally arranged, bars or slats, while allowing the dummy to be freestanding the unit is free from prior art restrictions allowing the practitioner a wider range in practicing various movements. The known support arrangements for such dummies do not allow for mobility of the dummy. Accordingly, the dummy cannot suitably simulate the reactions of a human when many movements are applied to it, or offer the ability to pracitice other forms of martial arts on it that differ from the specific martial arts style it was created for. It is therefore desirable to provide a portable base that can combine a plurality of portable detachable and interlocking modules that can be assembled and arranged in a plurality of configurations to enable the practice of a plurality of martial arts movements and styles, while maintaining a wider workout radius and its own support structure which allows it to be stable enough to withstand many movements applied to it, and thus enabling a single individual to set up, use, reconfigure and relocate it without the aid of wheels, extra manpower or specialist tools. Through its various attachments this base would serve the need for training and exercise devices capable of teaching martial arts skills by way of a electronic feedback devices and sensors which can be combined with a computational module for an in-depth technology-assisted martial arts practice and learning experience.
Disclosure of Invention
A base composed wholly as a single unit or a plurality of interlocked and detachable components on which one or many body components may be mounted as a single body unit or a collection of a plurality of body components.
One body component composed wholly as a single unit or a plurality of interlocked and detachable body components A modular electronic component composed wholly as a single unit or a plurality of interlocked and detachable electronic and non-electronic components with or without computational capability including digital screens, lights, speakers, and sensors capable of providing digital, visual, audio, haptic, vocal, feedback useful for the purpose of guiding, instructing, coaching or training in martial arts.
Brief Description of Drawings
For a more complete explanation of the present invention and the technical advantages thereof, reference is now made to the following description and the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a schematic representation of a portable base combining a plurality of portable detachable and interlocking modules arranged in the configuration of a Makiwara board, and a freestanding martial arts dummy that is used for the training of martial arts movements of the present invention.
Figure 2 shows a schematic representation of the portable base combining a plurality of portable detachable and interlocking modules arranged in the configuration of a freestanding martial arts dummy with all the corresponding pieces and components that is used for the training of martial arts movements Figure 3 shows a schematic representation of the portable base combining a plurality of portable detachable and interlocking modules arranged in the configuration of a Makiwara board with all the corresponding pieces and components that is used for the training of martial arts movements Figure 4 is a perspective view of the portable base onto which the portable detachable and interlocking modules can be arranged in various combinations and configurations to form a plurality of exercise and martial arts training devices.
Figure 5 shows a schematic representation of the lower part of a martial arts dummy module incorporating electronic devices for feedback and sensors and mechanisms which allows other martial arts dummy parts to be attached to it in order to form the full dummy.
Figure 6 shows a schematic representation of the upper part of a martial arts dummy module with three arms placed into respective slots and a modular electronic control module for the electronic devices for feedback and sensors on the upper part of the martial arts dummy body and incorporated into any part of the dummy connected directly or indirectly to it.
Figure 7 shows a schematic representation of an LCD screen, speaker, SD card port, USB port, HDMI port, battery supply, and alternative power supply port incorporated into the modular electronic control module for electronic devices for feedback and sensors incorporated into any module connected directly or indirectly to the portable base.
Figure 8 is a perspective view and schematic representation of a Makiwara board module which can be arranged onto the the portable base
Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
Embodiments of the present invention and their technical advantages may be better understood by referring to Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, and particularly to FIGURE. 1 thereof, there is shown multiple interlocking and detachable modules (2,4 and 11) arranged on a portable base (1) in various configurations to form different exercise and martial arts training devices. A martial arts dummy as shown in FIGURE.1 can result from the combination of two portable, interlocking and detachable modules (2 and 4) with each module's own detachable and interlocking pieces and components (7,8,9 and 10) adding functionality to the resulting martial arts dummy. It should be understood that the arrangement of detachable components of the modules shown in FIGURE.1 is merely illustrative of one possible exercise and martial arts dummy configuration. The modules may also incorporate electronic devices and mechanisms for feedback and sensors (3 and 5) that can branch out in many directions on each module and connect directly or indirectly to a modular electronic module (12). The modular electronic module (12) may or may not include computational or programmable components. FIGURE.1 also shows a martial arts training device known as a Makiwara board resulting from the arrangement of a module (11) on a portable base (1). It should be understood that the combination, configuration and arrangement of modules on a portable base shown in FIGURE.1 is merely illustrative of two possible exercise and martial arts devices that may result from the arrangement of a module or multiple modules on the portable base (1).
The preferred embodiments of the invention described herein are exemplary and numerous modifications, dimensional variations and arrangements can be readily envisioned to achieve an equivalent result, all of which are intended to be encompassed within the scope of the present invention.
