Abstract

258,292. Adams, W. L. Sept. 14, 1925, [Convention date]. Collision - guards. - A bumper for motor vehicles comprises a rubber block 10 formed on opposite sides with ribs 11 and grooves 12, a fixed member 14 on one side of the block and a movable member 15 on the other, the members having ribs 16 and grooves 17 to engage with the grooves and ribs in the block 10, and a buffer 23, Fig. 2, having supporting rods 22 arranged in line with and adapted to turn the movable member 15 through the medium of a lug 25. The rubber block may be such as is described in Specification 236,243, [Class 108 (ii), Road vehicles, Undercarriage details &c. for]. The fixed member 14 may be attached to a part 19 of a casting forming, with a guide sleeve 21 for one of the supporting rods 22, a bracket by which the bumper is attached to the vehicle frame. The cups 14, 15 are provided with internal corrugations which may be spot welded to or formed integral with the cups and the rubber block is held between them by a bolt 26 through the medium of a fibre washer 29, metal washer 28 and nut 27.
