Abstract
A filter for removing vapour exhaled after using an electronic cigarette. The filter comprises a tube 1 which acts as a mouthpiece for the exhalation of vapour, the tube leading into a breathable and absorbent pouch 2 having a high surface area, and optionally made using expanded polymers. The tube and pouch are inserted into an outer cover 3 that has an integral labyrinth seal 4. In use the user breathes into the tube 1 and in doing so rapidly expands the pouch 2 increasing the pressure within the pouch and condensing the majority of the vapour to liquid i.e. moisture and oil that is absorbed by the pouch as the exhaled vapour is forced through the pouch. The vapour is restricted further by the outer cover 3 that collects and condenses any vapour which has passed though the pouch 2. Clean air is permitted to leave the device via the labyrinth seal 4 that restricts the oil from the vapour escaping. The device filters the vapour of oil and moisture and used repeatedly until the pouch is saturated and obstructs the airflow.

Description:
The use of electronic cigarettes vaping has become a popular alternative to smoking tobacco. Electronic cigarettes present themselves in many forms with some devices allowing the user to creative large plumes of vapour clouds when exhaling. Whilst the vapour may be relatively nontoxic it is still unpleasant in certain circumstances especially for those non-vapers. Furthermore, the use of electronic cigarettes is forbidden in some public spaces because of the offensive plumes of vapour created.
Many electronic cigarette users find themselves having to use a designated smoking area in work places or public venues which are occupied by both smokers and vapers, this is not ideal for somebody attempting the cessation of tobacco for its electronic counterpart.
Use of electronic cigarettes in an enclosed space such as a car can restrict a driver's view because of the vapour produced, they also leave a residue on the windscreen.
Vaping and vapour clouds around children are particularly offensive.
Whereas many establishments restrict the use of vaping products, it is not currently illegal in many countries to use electronic cigarettes indoors rather it is under the discretion of the owner of the particular institution.
Vapour clouds created by electronic cigarettes thus far have been limited by switching to low voltage devices, whilst reduction of vapour clouds is apparent via this method, they still create an amount of vapour when exhaling consequently this does not eliminate the problem.
A further adoption for removal of smoke is to use a carbon filter which is not effective in the circumstance of vapour.
Another innovation to market is the use of an open tube with integral filter this reduces the amount of vapour produced although this does not eliminate the vapour cloud completely.
This patent describes a vapour filter bag which is designed so as the user may exhale their vapour into a (l)tube which is inset of an (2)expanded polymer pouch, (2)the expanded polymer pouch restricts the expansion of the vapour, thus as the user continues to exhale the pressure within the (2)pouch increases and begins to revert the vapour to its original liquid state via he act of condensing, the (2)expanded polymer pouch inherently attracts the oil constitute of the vapour thus absorbs the moisture, the now lower oil based vapour or cleaner air is forced through the (2) expanded polymer pouch and restricted further by the outer (3)cover bag, additionally condensing the vapour reverting more of the remaining oil based vapour to it's original liquid state, finally the now minor oil based vapour is exhausted via a (4)labyrinth seal which is integral to the (3) cover bag so as oils are restricted and clean air is permitted to escape thus removing the plume of vapour or cloud.
The vapour filter bag consists of a (1) tube of sufficient size to which the user may exhale into, an (2) Expanded polymer pouch which has a high surface area and is breathable thus allows non-vapour air to pass through whilst absorbing a majority of the oil-based vapour and a (3) cover bag to act as a damper for the remaining vapour which has not been absorbed, the cover bag has an integral (4)labyrinth seal so as to restricted the oil from the vapour escaping.
(l)tube is inserted and sealed into the (2)expanded polymer pouch, the (l)tube and (2)expanded polymer pouch assembly is inserted into the (3) cover bag with integral (4)labyrinth seal, the labyrinth seal is then aligned.
The vapour filter bag may be used repetitively until the (2)expanded polymer pouch is saturated and obstructs the airflow so as no more air may pass through. In using this method, the electronic cigarette user may use their device without creating a plume of vapour cloud thus not causing offense to anyone else.
Claims (2)
- Claims:(1) A portable filtration and compression assembly for electronic cigarette vapour to trap and absorb oil moisture and liquid from the vapour passing through it by the act of pressurising and condensing the vapour to revert the majority to a liquid state.
- (2) The vapour filter bag consists of (1) Tube (2) Expanded polymer pouch (3) Cover bag with integral (4)labyrinth seal as described.
