Abstract

257,547. Romer, J. F. May 28, 1926. Prisms; three-colour systems.-Optical systems for producing simultaneously four equal images in pairs, the images in each pair being relatively erect, but laterally reversed, consist of a pair of prisms P<1>, P<2> having an inclined surface X<1> upon which rays from the object O are incident and by which they are refracted to a semi-transparent surface S, arranged parallel to the direction of the axial incident ray from the object. The surface S divides the incident beam which emerges from the prisms at the surfaces X<2>, X<3> and is received on the surface X<4> of a compound prism P<3>, P<4>. A semi-transparent surface S<1> on this prism again divides the beam, part of which is reflected from the surface R'. The four parts of the original beams are received by four lenses L' - - L<4>. which produce four images M<1> - - M<4> of the object O as shown in Fig. 3. A modification is described in which the rays passing through the surface S' are reflected twice to move the two images laterally. Colour filters may be used in conjunction with the system for utilizing the images produced for colour-photography. The same system may be used for the optical projection of four images on to a screen.
