Fireboxes of the kind having a semi-elliptical crown 5, which is corrugated transversely arealso provided with one or more longitudinal corrugations or ribs 7 associated with the transverse corrugations 6 and extending from the front or tube plate 2 to the back plate 4, leaving the front and rear ends of the crown symmetrical so as not to diminish the tube area. The transverse corrugations may be uniformly distributed or be in staggered relation on either side of the longitudinal corrugations.
