Abstract

257,407. Johnson, C. E. Aug. 26, 1925. Mincing.-In a mincing machine having two or more perforated face plates which co-operate with rotary cutters, the cutting edges of the cutters are in the form of logarithmic spirals with their origins in the centre of rotation. The angle between the tangent to the cutting-edge at any point therein and the tangent to the circle swept out by the point is less than 46‹ and is the same for all points. The cutting angle of the cutters, i.e., the angle of the cutting-edge in cross section, is less than 46‹. When two discs and two cutters are employed, the back of the innermost cutter is wedge-shaped and impels the material towards the outermost cutter by a screw-like action. The perforations in each disc are arranged not to be numerically the same as the arms on the cutter, or a multiple thereof, in order to prevent simultaneous cutting at all the cutting-edges. As shown in Fig. 1, the two cutters 1, 2 rotate with their convex edges leading. In a modification, this arrangement is reversed. The face plates are held in the mincer barrel by radially projecting lugs which engage longitudinal slots in the barrel walls. Figs. 3 and 4 show sections of two forms of cutting-edges.
