Abstract

257,303. Rawlings, J. J., and Rawlplug Co., Ltd. March 28, 1925. Screw sockets.-Hollow fibrous wall plugs for securing screws (or nails) are provided with an interior lining of a lubricant such as graphite, steatite or grease. Reels g of twisted fibrous strands are arranged round a reel c of paper or textile fabric impregnated with a lubricant. The fibrous strands and the paper are formed into the tubular material, from which the plugs are cut, by passing between a mandrel d and a hole in a guide plate f, the paper being formed into a tube by passing down a conical member e. The mandrel d may be tubular so that pulverulent, pasty or liquid lubricant may be fed through it and the spools g may be mounted on a rotary head to give a spiral arrangement to the strands. Alternatively a length of tubular material formed by the strands may be filled with lubricant, the excess of lubricant being afterwards poured out.
