(Cl. 225-67) The present invention relates to a paper storageand dispensing device, and has the primary object of providing a device of the kind referred to for use in drawing ofiices or on wrapping stations, which is of simple construction, and is handy and reliable in operation.
With these and other objects in View, which will become apparent later from this specification and the accompanying drawings, I provide a paper storageand dispensing device, comprising in combination: a casing, bearings mounted in said casing in a ignment with one another, a cylindrical drum in operation serving as a carrier of a coil of paper and having stub axles journalled in said bearings, and a straight-edge member mounted on said casing parallel to the axis of said drum, and spring-biased towards said coil of paper so as to contact the same in operation along a generatrix of its circumference.
I moreover provide a paper storageand dispensing device comprising in combination: a pedestal, an upright column at its lower end mounted on said pedestal, a spider mounted at the upper end of said column, casings exchangeably mounted on said spider, in each casing bearings in alignment with one another on an axis parallel to said column, a cylindrical drum in operation serving as a carrier of a coil of paper and having stub axles journaled in said bearings, and a straight-edge member mounted on said casing parallel to said axis and springbiased towards said coil of paper so as to contact in operation its circumference along a generatrix.
These and other features of my said invention will be readily understood from the following description of some embodiments thereof, given by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

FIG. 3 is a cross section on the line lllIll of FIG. 1,
FIG. 4 is a modification of FIG. 2,
FIGS. 5 and 6 show a carrier column for several paper storage cases.
The embodiment according to the FIGS. 1 and 3 comprises a sheet metal casing 1 having a rear Wall 11, a side wall 12, a cover plate 13 and a bottom plate 14. On the underside of the cover plate 13 a bracket is fixed, which has a recess 150 in its margin. On the bottom plate 14 a U-profile rail 16 is fixed, in the upper leg of which there is a hole 160 straight below the recess 15b. The recess 150 in the bracket 15 and the hole 169 in the profile rail 16 form bearings journalling the stub axles 17 and 18 of a hollow cylindrical drum 19. A holder lever 24} pivotally mounted on the bracket 15 and having a recess 20%) on its margin serves for holding the stub shafts 17 inserted into the recess 151 This stub shaft is provided with a screw thread 176, on which a star grip nut 21 can be screwed. In cut-outs of the hollow cylindrical drum 19 lying in pairs on top of one another the ends of wires 1% consisting of spring steel are inserted, which may have a round, a flattened round, elliptical, triangular, hexagonal or similar profile. These wires serve for holding a card-board tube 22 on which the paper strip 22% is coiled. One zone of the lower end face of the coil of paper 220 contacts a cylindrical drum 23 which is rotatably journalled on a carrier pinion fixedly mounted on the side wall 12 and inserted radially relative to the axis of the cylindrical drum 19. The same prevents axial displacements of the paper strip when being coiled on or off. On a vertical shaft 24 inserted between the bottom plate 14 and the cover plate 13 a hollow profile straight-edge member 25 is pivotally mounted, which encloses a cavity 250 of tubular profile. The profile of this hollow straight-edge member may be round, flattened round, elliptical, triangular or similar. This hollow profile straight-edge member is forced by the ten sile force of a spring 26 against the circumference of the paper coil 22% on the cardboard drum 22. The straightedge member 25 is at the same constructed as the cuttingotf device for the paper strip 2213. Through a frontal slot 251 in the wall of the hollow profile straight-edge member 25 a cutting-01f member, e.g. a razor blade 252 is inserted which on the outside carries a grip 253 and at the inside is conencted with a roller device 254. The cut-ofi' device consisting of the components 252, 253 and 254 rests normally on the bottom of the chamber 25%. By pulling the paper strip 224) a paper sheet 221 of the desired length may be pulled off the card board roller. A device consisting of a scale 27 protruding from the frontal face of the device illustrated facilitates the determining of the length. Subsequently the paper sheet 221 pulled 013? may be bent about the wall of the hollow profile straight-edge member 25 and may be cut off by pulling the cut-off device 252 up in the slot 251.
FIG. 4 shows a simpler modification, in which the straight-edge member 28 pressed by the bias of a spring 26 against the paper roll 22% forms a knife edge 23%, which contacts the paper coil and facilitates the tearing off of the pulled ofi sheet 220.
According to the FIGS. 5 and 6, on an upright column 29 having a pedestal 290, for example four paper dispensing devices 1 according to the FIGS. 14 are suspended, the width of the paper being diierent in the four dispensing devices. Thereby a space-saving device for drawing offices or for wrapping stations for goods are formed, from which the paper of the Width required can be easily taken at the length desired.
While I have described hereinabove and illustrated in the accompanying drawings what may be considered typical and particularly useful embodiments of my said invention, I wish it to be understood, that I do not limit myself to the particular details and dimensions described and illustrated; for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A paper storageand dispensing device, comprising in combination: a casing, bearings mounted in said casing in alignment with one another, a cylindrical drum in operation serving as a carrier of a coil of paper and having stub axles journaled in said bearings, a straight-edge member mounted on said casing parallel to the axis of said drum and spring-biased towards said coil of paper so as to contact in operation its circumference along a generatrix thereof, and a spring member mounted on said drum, in operation contacting said coil of paper from inside and clamping the same to said drum.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said spring member is a spring-steel wire running parallel to a generatrix of said cylindrical drum and having inwardly bent ends inserted into holes adjacent the ends of said drum.
3. A device as claimed in claim 2, comprising a plurality of said spring steel wires distributed over the circumference of said drum and with their inwardly bent ends inserted in holes distributed over pitch circles adjacent the ends of said drum.
4. A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein one of said bearings includes two members pivoted to each other for movement between a working position enclosing the corresponding stub axle and a releasing position permitting withdrawal of said stub axle from the bearingin a direction transverse to the axle.

A device as claimed in claim 4, wherein said stub axle has a threaded free end projecting beyond said bearing; and including a tubular member screwed onto said threaded free end of said stub axle and extending through and beyond a bore in a wall of said casing and having a grip portion outside said wall facilitating screwing said member on and unscrewing it from said threaded end of said stub axle.
6. A paper storage and dispensing device comprising, in combination, a casing; a drum serving as a carrier of a coil of paper and being mounted in said casing turnable about its axis; a straight-edge member mounted on said casing parallel to the axis of said drum and biased toward the coil of paper so as to contact its circumference around a generatrix thereof; and resilient means on said drum for contacting the coil of paper at the interior thereof and for resiliently clamping the same to said drum.

A paper storage and dispensing device comprising, in combination, a casing; a drum serving as a carrier of a coil of paper and being mounted in said casing turnable about its axis; a hollow straight-edge member mounted on said casing parallel to the axis of said drum and spring biased toward said coil of paper so as to contact its circumference along a generatrix thereof, said hollow straightedge member being formed with a longitudinal slot parallel to the axis of said drum; and cutting means having one end slidably guided in said hollow straight-edge member and a cutting edge protruding through said slot to the outside of said straight-edge member.

A paper storage and dispensing device comprising, in combination, a casing; a drum serving as a carrier of a coil of paper and being mounted in said casing turnable about its axis; a hollow straight-edge member mounted on therealong, a cutting knife connected at one end to said roller means for movement therewith and extending through said slot while being guided therein to the outside of said straight-edge member, and a handle fixed to the outer free end of said knife.
9. A paper storage and dispensing device comprising, in combination, a casing; a drum serving as a carrier of a coil of paper and being mounted in said casing turnable about its axis; resilient means on said drum for contacting said coil of paper at the interior thereof and for clamping the same to said drum; a hollow straight-edge member mounted on said casing parallel to the axis of said drum and spring biased toward said coil of paper so as to contact its circumference along a generatrix thereof, said hollow straight-edge member being formed with a longitudinal slot parallel to the axis of said drum; and cutting means having one end slidably guided in said hollow straight-edge member and a cutting edge protruding through said slot to the outside of said straight-edge member.

Claims (1)

1. A PAPER STORAGE- AND DISPENSING DEVICE, COMPRISING IN COMBINATION: A CASINGS, BEARINGS MOUNTED IN SAID CASING IN ALIGNMENT WITH ONE ANOTHER, A CYLINDRICAL DRUM IN OPERATION SERVING AS A CARRIER OF A COIL OF PAPER AND HAVING STUB AXLES JOURNALED IN SAID BEARINGS, A STRAIGHT-EDGE MEMBER MOUNTED ON SAID CASING PARALLEL TO THE AXIS OF SAID DRUM AND SPRING-BIASED TOWARDS SAID COIL OF PAPER SO AS TO CONTACT IN OPERATION ITS CIRCUMFERENCE ALONG A GENERATRIX THEREOF, AND A SPRING MEMBER MOUNTED ON SAID DRUM, IN OPERATION CONTACTING SAID COIL OF PAPER FROM INSIDE AND CLAMPING THE SAME TO SAID DRUM.
