Abstract

Material bags (mn) releasably attached to the legs of a helicopter, providing a surface to allow the aircraft to land and take off from soft terrain such as mud. The bags are preferably hessian sacks, which cushion the legs of the helicopter. The material bag is attached to the leg sleeve (s) of the aircraft via hook (h), and the weight is held by magnets (m). A nose cone (n) protects the material bag arrangement from the air current when in flight. The bags provide a landing surface for the aircraft, and then can be removed from the legs and left in place on the ground when the aircraft takes off again from the soft surface. The hooks are removed from the helicopter legs, or the bag has zips (z) which are lowered, allowing removal of the bags from the helicopter.

Application No GB1701982.9 Description of invention MUD HEBE
The mud hebe is an invention which can be made and used to enable a helicopter to land and subsequently take off from soft terrain.
The invention is an attachment for the supporting legs of the machine and can be made in three main parts; nose cone, magnets and material bag as illustrated in the diagram.
The invention is designed to allow the machine to perform its normal functions as follows;
A. Take off to destination
The wheels of the machine are aligned to the central fin plates (on the base plate) at the centre point of the mud hebe. The hooks of the material bag are attached to the leg sleeve and the majority ofthe weight ofthe attachment is held by the industrial magnets.
• · • · • · · · ·;···· B. In flight journey
The machine leaves with the mud hebes attached to the legs. The legs move • · · · w : to the in-flight position parallel to the fuselage. The nose cone protects the ··· material bag arrangement from the air current whilst the machine travels at speed to the destination in an emergency.
• · : · I* C. Landing in soft terrain
The machine is now landed with the legs in a vertical position in the mud near to the incident. The mud hebes cushion the legs ofthe machine into the soft terrain and the weight of the machine itself presses the legs deeper into the mud to the point of settlement.
D. Evacuation to hospital
When ready to leave the incident area the material bag hooks are manually removed from the legs and/or the zips are pulled downwards. Then the machine can make a clean take off out of the mud leaving the mud hebes behind for later recovery.

Claims (7)

1. Purpose of the mud hebe is to cushion a machine into a mud landing area in such a way that it can subsequently be capable of an escape, therefore the machine can take off cleanly from that area.
2. The mud hebe(s) can be attached to the leg(s) of the machine prior to take off.
3. In-flight the mud hebe(s) can travel with the leg(s) in their horizontal position
... with the bag arrangement(s) attached to the leg(s) by industrial strength **’ magnets, to arrive at the mud landing area.
• · ·· ·· • · ·
4. The machine can be carefully landed into the mud and the leg(s) are • · · • cushioned into the mud by the weight of the machine sitting on the base
.....: plate(s).
• · ·· ·· • · · • ·
5. The machine's wheels are stabilised by the fin plates located at the sides of the base plate(s).
6. The mud hebe(s) can be detached from the leg(s) by removal of the cable hooks and/or unzipping the material bag at the top of the material bag arrangement. By this combination of manual actions the clean evacuation of the machine can be achieved as the top opening is expanded.
MUD HEBE Claims (continued)
7. The machine is now capable of leaving the mud landing area and can take off to evacuate casualties to their required destination. The mud hebe(s) are abandoned in the mud.

AMENDED CLAIMS HAVE BEEN FILED AS FOLLOWS:
1. Purpose of the mud hebe is to cushion a machine into a mud landing area in such a way that it can subsequently be capable of an escape, therefore the machine can take off cleanly from that area.
2. The mud hebe(s) can be attached to the leg(s) of the machine prior to take off.

4. The machine can be carefully landed into the mud and the leg(s) are • · · • cushioned into the mud by the weight of the machine sitting on the base plate(s).
• · ·· ·· • · · • ·
5. The machine's wheels are stabilised by the fin plates located at the sides of the base plate(s). Machine leg vibrations must be contained when; machine leaves base, machine lands near to the incident area, machine exits the incident area. Chocks may be inserted into the material bag(s) on the base plate(s) to assist with the stabilisation procedure.
6. The mud hebe(s) can be detached from the leg(s) by removal of the cable hooks and/or unzipping the material bag at the top of the material bag arrangement. By this combination of manual actions the clean evacuation of the machine can be achieved as the top opening is expanded.
