Crops, root, digging.-In a rootlifting or other agricultural machine of the type in which the tools are raised or lowered by adjusting the position of cranked arms on which ground wheels are mounted, the shaft on which the cranked arms are mounted or each of the cranked arms forms an external bearing for a live spindle conveying power from the ground wheels to an associated apparatus such as a root cleaner. The ground wheels 13, Fig. 1, are carried by cranked arms 3 extending from a shaft 2 pivoted in the frame 1. The position of the arms 3 may be varied by operating a hand-wheel 31 actuating a wormwheel 32 secured to the shaft 2. The shaft 2 is hollow and forms an external bearing for a spindle carrying sprocket wheels 9, 10, connected to wheels 33 coupled to the ground wheels 13 and wheels 11 on an auxiliary shaft 12 respectively. In a modification the cranked arms may be adjusted by a quadrant lever, means being provided to set the inclination of the lever at a desired angle to suit the slope of the ground. In another modification, each cranked arm forms an -external bearing for a shaft carrying the ground wheel and a sprocket wheel that is connected to a sprocket wheel on the main shaft, such second sprocket wheel being connected to a third sprocket wheel for driving the auxiliary shaft as before.
