Abstract
255,200. Crabtree, D., and Crabtree, T. H. June 5, 1925. Pile-fabric looms. - The pile is formed by means of hooked rods or bars 2, Figs. 4, 5 and 6, mounted side by side on a rack bar 3 fixed to a sliding bar 5, which is caused by cam-controlled lever mechanism to move on the breast beam 6 and thus move the rods &c. 2 towards and away from the reed. The upper edges of the parts b of the hooked rods &c, 2 are engaged by a grooved upper bar 4. which is caused to slide longitudinally on the bar 3 at times to tilt the rods &c. 2 from vertical to inclined positions when the rods have been moved towards the reed, thus enabling the hooked parts a of the rods &c. to engage the warp threads and cause them to form loops over the rods as these move away from the reed. The loops slide over the rods &c. as the wefts are beaten up and ultimately are cut by the lower edges of detachable cutting blades 22 held in grooves in the rods &c, by cross pins 23<a> or by the upper edges 22, Fig. 7, of cutting blades embedded in the rods &c. To prevent accumulation of fluff &c. in the grooves of the rods &c., a bar formed with projections may be reciprocated in openings therein. The rods &c. are formed with notches b' to engage a flange from an extending rib 3d fixed to the bar 3. This rib 3d may be made in sections, so that after removal of any one section, any of its respective rods &c. may be removed. A bowl &c. on a lever actuated by cam-controlled lever mechanism engages a slot in the bar 4 and thus causes the bar to move longitudinally on the bar 3 to tilt the rods &c. 2 at the desired times. The second Provisional Specification describes an arrangement wherein the hooked rods or bars engage openings in two or more rods extending across the loom, one of which is moved longitudinally by cam lever or other mechanism.
