Abstract
254,905. Howard, Ltd... J. & F., and Shorten, J. G. April 1, 1925. Moulds; patterns: guiding moulds. - In a mould for plough shares and other agricultural implement parts &c. comprising an iron mould part and a sand mould part a chill is placed in the sand to produce a chilled surface on both sides of a point or part of the casting. The mould may be of the kind described in Specifications 254,777 and 254,904 and the sand part may be rammed by a machine of the kind described in Specification 254,778. The chill A has a projection A* and recesses A<1>, A<2> and A<3> for engaging corresponding formations on the pattern, and a web A<4>, which may be notched or perforated, or both, to be embedded in the sand. The sand part may also carry an embedded core C<3>.
