Description

A SPRAY BOOTH
The object of the present invention is a spray booth for use in powder coating, in automatic and manual applications. A patent publication CS206365 discloses a spray booth formed by vertical walls, a ceiling consisting of two planes inclined inwards and a profiled floor. Between the upper inclined surfaces of the booth there is an aperture, through which an article to be painted is transported. A gun for applying a paint coat is located in a central position. The side walls, in their lower part, are directed inwards, similarly as the ceiling. Such structure resembles an oval solid. The floor of the chamber is formed by two profiled projections, with a free space between them. An apex angle of the projection is up to 60°. Between the two projections and between the sides of the projections and the inclined walls there are free spaces as well. Such configuration causes that the powder paint does not stop at a flat surface, but falls downwards and is further carried out from the spray chamber via a conduit. A patent publication EP0200681 discloses a line for powder coating that comprises a cabin having walls made of a non-conductive plastic material. The lower part of the cabin has a V-shaped section and terminates in a collecting channel which is connected to a suction device. The collecting channel has a round cross-section. The installation further comprises a cleaning device with a hollow frame, the form of which compliments the contours of the internal form of the cabin and which comprises gas outlet holes along its periphery. The frame is connected to a source of pressurized air. After the coating process is finished, the frame together with the nozzles moves upwards and sprays the inner surfaces of the chamber with air. The powder that is blown out falls away and is directed along the curvature of the floor towards the collecting channel. Such structure allows a quick change of the colour of the paint. A patent publication US5680670 discloses a cleaning device for a powder coating compartment. The device has a shape of an inverted letter U and moves lengthwise along the entire chamber. The device comprises a tube system equipped with nozzles through which compressed air can be blown against the compartment walls. The tube system comprises tube branches that extend substantially vertically and in parallel to the side walls of the chamber and comprise exchangeable nozzles. The floor comprises a central belt, along which there are located aggregate conduits for draining excess of paint. Side walls, in the lower part, are slightly bent inwards, thereby forming a gutter, via which the blown-out paint is collected. The device with nozzles has an additional nozzle for blowing at this surface.
The structures described above are complicated and expensive in use. Due to their large sizes and solid bodies, they cannot be modified or expanded. Furthermore, the booth as a whole is difficult to be transported and installed. In order to be cleaned, the booths need an additional device with nozzles, which has a low efficiency and results in unsatisfactory quality of cleaning the whole chamber, wherein paint remains in profile junctions and in corners. The nozzles are subject to clogging. The manufacture of the entire line requires use of expensive and complicated devices and the line is made on demand in a desired configuration.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a simple and reliable construction of a modular spray chamber, that allows expanding the booth to improve the efficiency of the powder coating facility. By allowing expansion by an additional module, a booth can be adapted to changing process requirements, without the need to replace the entire booth. Furthermore, manufacture of the roof and the floor of the booth by a thermoforming method allows to form curved shapes and embedding therein an integrated blowing system for cleaning the walls.
The object of the invention is a spray booth comprising a blowing system for cleaning side walls and a roof of the booth by air generated by a ventilator and comprising an aggregate conduit, characterized in that the spray booth comprises a plurality of detachable modules connected together by a connecting flange, each module comprising a profiled two-part roof, a profiled floor and side walls, wherein each of the elements has integrated therein a blowing system for cleaning the interior of the booth with blown air.
The module can be an operator module, or the module is an automatic coating application module, or the module is an exhaust module.
The floor of the module can be fixed on openwork elements fixed on a frame, and in the middle part it has formed therein an exhaust collector covered by a cover.
The module may comprise a blowing system for cleaning the booth by air, which consists of an excess pressure chamber, slots positioned in the two-part roof and slots positioned at the connection of the roof with the side wall.
The two-part roof and the floor of module can be made from a plastic material by thermoforming. A surface of the two-part roof located inside the module may have an arched shape, a pressure chamber is located over the two-part roof, and the whole arrangement is fixed at the top to a support chassis.
The presented modular spray booth has a simple and reliable design, that can be expanded by adding additional modules, in order to increase the efficiency of the powder coating facility. The possibility to add a new module enables to adapt the process line to changing requirements, without the need to replace the entire booth. Manufacture of the roof and the floor of the booth by the thermoforming method allows forming curved shapes and embedding therein an integrated blowing system for cleaning the walls.
The invention is presented by means of an example embodiment in a drawing, in which Fig. 1 presents a booth module for an operator, Fig. 2 presents a booth module for automatic applications in a vertical system, Fig. 3 presents a booth module with an exhaust conduit, Fig.4 presents a structure of a bottom, Fig. 5 presents a blowing system for a roof and walls of the module, and Fig. 6 presents a booth formed of a plurality of modules. A spray booth as described herein comprises a blowing system for cleaning the booth with air and an aggregate conduit. The spray booth is formed of four modules 1. The two external modules 8 are operator modules adapted to enable an operator to work therein. Between them there is a module 10 with an aspirating conduit and module 9 for automatic coating application in a vertical system. All the modules 8, 9, 10, are positioned in line and joined together by connecting flanges 2, located around the module 1 at its outer portion. The modules are connected by threads and apertures formed in the flange 2. The structure of the flange 2 and the sealing provide precise abutting and tightness between the linked modules 8. Each module 1 has at its top a support chassis 19, to which a roof 3 is fixed. The surface of the roof located inside the module 1 has an arched shape and is supported by an openwork element 20 that reinforces the structure and forms the structure of a pressure chamber 15. The openwork element 20 is fixed at the top to a steel support chassis 19. The roof 3 is made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) by thermoforming. The roof 3 consists of two identical parts, between which a channel 21 is present for transporting the painted article. Both parts of the roof 3 are supported on vertical side walls 5 fixed firmly to a floor 4. The floor 4 of the module 1 is made from PVC by thermoforming and is fixed on openwork elements 11 fixed on a frame 12. In the middle part, the floor 4 has an exhaust collector 13 formed therein, which is covered by a cover 14. The frame 12, on which the floor 4 is fixed, further comprises special steel stiffening means in a form of profiles 22, which facilitate transporting of the entire module 1 by a forklift. There are slots 16 and 18 located in a surface of the roof 3 and in the walls 5. Air is introduced to the chamber of the module 1 by the slots 16 and 18. The air is generated by a ventilator, which is located in a pressure chamber 15 (with pressure above the normal atmospheric pressure). A particular module 1 may further comprise specialized instrumentation, depending on a function of the particular module 1 served in the spray booth.
The operator module 8 has stairs 25 leading to a platform 23 with a barrier 24 and a window 26 through which an article can be painted manually.
The module 10 with the exhaust conduit has a segment 27 linked with the exhaust collector 13. It extends outside the module 10 and further between the openwork elements 11 supporting the floor 4 of the module 1. In the distant part it is plugged into the ventilation system.
Another type of modules 1 used in the spray booth are modules 9 for automatic coating applications. The module 9 for automatic coating in a vertical system has a longitudinal slot 28 in the vertical wall 5, to which there is fixed a system comprising a paint gun fixed in a guide with a mechanism that enables its movement up and down.
The present invention can be used both in large and in small facilities, which utilize technical processes that involve powder coating. It is useful particularly in those facilities, wherein the paint colour is frequently changed and it is necessary to reconfigure the process line as quickly as possible.
