Abstract

254,643. Smith, A. C., and Chandler, T. H. March 8, 1926. Signalling any of a number of possible indications.-In a road-vehicle signal, an arm 15 is raised to a selected position by suction, a piston 39 being connected by a rod 49 and a link 41 to a disc 20 mounted on the pivot of the arm 15. A hand-controlled switch arm 81 and a switch 85 operated by a brake-pedal close the circuits of solenoids 59, 60, respectively and cause one or other of the armatures 61, 62 to engage a shoulder 64 on the rod 40 to bring the arm to rest in one of its two lower positions. If the arm 81 is moved to the right, neither solenoid is energized and the arm 15 is raised until a stop 21 comes against a pin 23. With the operation of the switches 81, 85, the circuit of a solenoid 50 is closed, and the attraction of an armature 51 closes a valve 53 to shut of the cylinder 36 from the atmosphere and opens a valve 49 to connect the cylinder with a source of suction to effect the signal.
