Crushers with vibrating jaws. - Relates to machines for crushing stone, brick, &c. of the kind in which a pair of opposed crushing-members, between which the stone &c. is passed longitudinally, are moved in circular paths at one end and are yieldingly connected by links to normally fixed points at their other ends. According to the invention, the crushing-members are so reciprocated longitudinally that the two members always move in opposite directions with respect to each other so that the stone &c. fed between them is subjected to a grinding as well as to a crushing action. As shown, the upper ends of the crushing-members 5 are oscillated by means of similar but diametrically opposed eccentrics secured to transverse shafts 4 which are rotated at the same rate in the same direction by means of wheels 7 gearing with an intermediate wheel 17, one of the shafts 7 being driven by means of a pulley 1. The closeness to which the lower ends of the members 5 can approach is limited by rods 10 which are pivoted at 19 to the lower ends of the members and pass freely through blocks 13 having trunnions mounted in bearing-members 20. Springs 12 surrounding the rods 10 bear at one end against the blocks 13 and at the other end against adjustable nuts 11 on the rods. Nuts 14 on the outer ends of the rods 10 enable the outlet space at the lower ends of the members to be varied. The members may be provided on their inner faces with removable jaws 6 of hard steel &c. having cross serrations or ridges. The bevelled ends of the jaws engage in recesses in the members 5 which are undercut at their lower ends, the upper ends, of the jaws being held in position by bolts 18 having conical heads engaging in notches in the upper ends of the jaws.
