Abstract

Couplings for tractors, - Apparatus for coupling agricultural implements to tractors and automatically regulating the depth of work comprises a draught connection between the implement and the tractor adapted to control the operation of the power unit in accordance with variations in the draught. The plough 6, Fig. 1, is supported by a bell-crank lever 16 pivotally mounted on the tractor, and is connected by a draught link 7 to a pivoted lever or rocker 9 provided with a spring 8 for balancing the pull.Movement of the lever 9 under the varying pull operates a switch 12 and causes an electric motor 13 to rotate an internally-threaded sleeve 14 and thus move a screwed rod 15 connected to the boll- .orank lever 16. In order to overcome torsional stresses, the bell-crank lever 16 may be of duplex construction with its two parts ad. justable in length, the draught link 7 also being of compound construction and the plough frame being provided with two upstanding members 16<b> spaced apart laterally and inclined towards one another and pivotally connected at 16a to the lever 16. In the modification partly shown in Fig 5, the implement head 29 is connected by draw pins 27, 28 to two lugs 27a, 28a on the tractor, the bell-crank lever 16 and rocker 9 being pivotally mounted on the head 29. A push rod 31 on the bell-crank lever 16 bears on one arm of a two-armed rocker 30, the other arm of which is connected to the rod 15. The rocker 9 is controlled by a compression spring 8 and is connected with the controlling-rod 10 through a rod 9<c> and a pivoted lever 10<c>. In another arrangement, the bell-crank lever 16 engages the end of a worm shaft through which the axle of the tractor is driven, the worm shaft being mounted so that it may move axially when its end thrust varies in accordance with the draught of the implement. The lever 16 moves with the worm shaft and regulates the depth of work. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 12 hydraulic control apparatus is employed. The plough frame 34 is supported by links 35 and pulled by draught links 7 attached to a rocker 9 controlled by a spring 8. Any variation in pull is communicated through the rocker 9 to a spring-controlled bell-crank lever 38 which operates a valve 40 and controls the pressure of the oil or other fluid in a cylinder 41, in which works a piston 51 connected by a rod 52 to the links 35. The bell-crank lever 38 is mounted on an eccentric which is adjustable by means of a lever 42 to vary the normal depth - of work &c.
