Abstract

A traffic light control system that changes traffic 6 and pedestrian lights 9 to blue for the purpose of alerting road users to the presence of passing emergency vehicles and then reverts to the normal sequence of operation once the emergency vehicle has passed, comprising of an activating device 3, a two way relay system 2 and a central processing unit 7. The system will preferably be activated by the vehicle driver 1. Antenna 5, connected to lampposts 4 will preferably relay the activation signal to the central processing device which will then change traffic and pedestrian lights to blue. Once the emergency vehicle has passed, the activation device will issue a signal to turn all light back to their previous sequence.

Description

EMERGENCY SAFETY MEASURE
This invention relates to helping the emergency services vehicles reaching their destination in a safer & quicker manner.
Increasing the chances of survival of a person or people in need of help. Increasing the chances of making it safe for a person or people in need of help.
At the present time when an emergency services vehicle approaches a set of traffic lights they have to slow down significantly or sometimes stop. People in vehicles at the traffic lights can wait until the emergency services vehicle is right behind them before they move their vehicle out of the way so that the emergency services vehicle can pass on through the set of traffic lights.
Sometimes people in vehicles are not sure which way the emergency services is coming tiom and going to. They hear the siren and dont move until the emergency services vehicle is right behind them and then move out of the way. Some people panic in their vehicle and do nothing until the emergency services vehicle is right behind them and then move out of the way. Some people in vehicles have music up so loud they dont hear the noise of the emergency services vehicle until it is right behind them and then move out of the way.
An emergency services vehicle can easily lose for example 30 seconds at a set of traffic lights. When an emergency services vehicle has to pass through, for example 5 sets of traffic lights. The emergency services vehicle has losed 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
If a person is having a heart attack or is losing blood, stuck in a building which is on fire, being burgled, being assulted or raped. The additional time losed at a traffic light can be the difference between life and death.
An example of the invention will now be described by referrng to the accompanying drawings.

* Figure 2 Shows a device within the emergency services vehicle which once activated immediately activates the antena relay system. Shows a two way antena attached to the top of the emergency services vehicle. This antena can be attached to any part of the emergency services vehicle which works.
* Figure 3 Figure 4 Shows a lampost. Being lamposts on the side of roads which have a set of traffic lights on the same road.
* Figure 5 Shows antena relay devices attached to lamposts. These antenas relay the message from one to another. The devices can be attached to any object alongside the road.

This invention will allow any emergency services vehicle driver or other personal to activate 3 a two way antena device by activating 2 a device within I the emergency services vehicle which activates 3 a two way antena device attached to the top of 1 the emergency services vehicle, or any other part of 1 which works.
The relay of antena devices 5 which are attached to any object along side the road, normally 4 lamposts. They 5 the relay of antena devices immediately relay the information to 6 an antena receiving device attached to 8 the traffic lights and 10 an antena receiving device attached to 9 the pedestrian lights.
The 7 central processing unit of 8 the traffic lights and 11 central processing unit of 9 the pedestrian lights immediately turns the 8 traffic lights and 9 pedestrian lights all flashing blue So before any emergency services vehicle is in sight or is partially in sight in the distant background the 8 traffic lights and 9 the pedestrian lights are all flashing blue. With 12 any vehicle having already moved out of the way, allowing 1 the emergency services vehicle a safer and quicker passage to the emergency destination.
After any I emergency services vehicle has past beyond 8 the traffic lights and 9 the pedestrian lights. The 3 the two way antena device triggers and 6 and 10 the antena receiving devices attached to 8 and 9 the traffic lights and pedestrian lights.
This triggers 7 and 11 central processing units to reset the 8 and 9 the traffic lights and pedestrian lights back to the sequence of operation they were before all flashing blue.
Allowing 12 any vehicle to carry on their journey once again.
If 6 and 10 the antena receiving devices attached to 8 and 9 the traffic lights and pedestrian lights receive two messages at the same time from 3 the two way antena device.
One message from 1 any emergency services which has pasted through the 8 and 9 traffic lights and pedestrian lights. Another message from 1 any emergency services vehicle approaching 8 and 9 the traffic lights and pedestrian lights.
The 7 and I I central processing units will always give priority to I the emergency services vehicle approaching the 8 and 9 traffic lights and pedestrian lights.
As the sight of the driver is more important than the hearing, the visual stimulus will work to greater effect in terms of reaction.
The order of vehicles being conditioned, when seeing the three flashing blue lights to immediately move and position the vehicle in a manner that allows the emergency services vehicle's to pass through the set of traffic lights in a more safer, quicker manner. Giving the person or people in need of help a much greater chance of survival or a greater chance of making the situation safe.
With this invention if an emergency services vehicle has to pass through five sets of traffic lights, and around 30 seconds time is saved at each of the five sets of traffic lights; seconds times five = 2 minutes 30 seconds saved time.
This saved time will save a persons life. Like a heart attack victim or people stuck in a building which is on fire or a person who has cut an atery.
There is also the return journey back to the hospital where this invention will again increase the chances of survival for a person or people in need of help.
