Abstract

Lengths of channel sections F may be attached to one another to form a perimeter frame into which concrete may be poured to form a slab foundation, see figure 1. Levelling means which may be threaded studs D and locknuts E may be provided at each corner to adjust the vertical height of the shuttering, see figure 3. In use holes are dug into the ground , the device is assembled, the threaded bolts are located in the holes, the device is then levelled and the device including the voids around each stud D is then filled with concrete G, see figure 5. The device may also be fitted with a damp proof membrane H and insulation J and may be fitted with reinforcing bars and supports K. Concrete L fills the interior of the device. The shuttering forms a permanent part of the structure, also known as lost shuttering.

Description

Foundation base for small buildings.
This invention relates to a foundation base for small buildings. The use of traditional methods of building foundations present some problems. The skilled labour method of digging foundations and the use of skilled bricklayers requires time and expense.
To overcome this, the invention proposes a prefabricated permanent shutter, which contains a damp proof membrane. The devise is fully contained and will remove the need for deep foundation holes. Sloping ground is accommodated by the means of adjustable legs. The devise can be custom made, enabling specific bespoke foundations to be prepared.
The invention will produce a secure foundation for small buildings, without the need of digging deep trenches and requires little skill. Foundation holes are required to a depth of only 500mm. It is easily adaptable for multiple uses such as porches, sheds, small extensions, garden rooms and raised patios.
The invention will be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.
The final constructed foundation base is shown in Figure 1. The accompanying drawings (Figures 2-7) show the construction of the device.
Figure 2 shows the prefabricated steel shutter consisting of U' channels in sections (A) which are designed to contain the damp proof membrane, the insulation and the concrete. The U' channels (B) are connected by means of pre-drilled steel corner cleats (C). The component parts are bolted together to form the external size required (Figure 1).
The foundation legs (Figure 3, D) are bolted onto the frame (F) and will adjust in line with the slope of the ground.
The base is secured to the building, if required, by bolts, (Figure 4) and levelled by means of the double adjusting nut device, (FigureS, E).
Two holes (100-150mm diameter) are dug in the ground to a depth of 500mm.
In Figure 5, the foundation legs (D) are attached to the steelwork permanent base shutter (F) and inserted into the foundation holes.
The foundation legs (D) are levelled by means of the double adjusting nut device (E) as seen in Figures 3 & 5, and the foundation holes are filled with concrete (G).
The damp Proof Membrane (H) and insulation (J) is inserted into the foundation shutter (F) (Figure 6) Reinforcement is added, supported by plastic mesh men (Figure 7, K) and the base is filled with concrete (L).
Once the concrete is set, frames can be fitted to the base (F) (Figure 7)
