Abstract

An electric toaster that is used as a conventional toaster in its vertical position and when the toaster is turned onto its side in a horizontal/inclined position the toaster can be used as a grill. When the toaster is moved from a vertical to horizontal/inclined position a switch may prevent the lower heating elements of the toasting chambers from operating. To operate the grill, the user will place the item for grilling on a heat resistant lipped grilling tray 4 which when placed into the toasting chamber may operate a switch that activates the relevant upper heating element and timer. The tray may also prevent debris from falling onto the lower element.

Description

Background
The electrictoaster is used fortoasting bread in the vertical position. The facilitytotoast cheese on toast is not available on a conventional, vertical bread toaster.
Statement of Invention
To overcome this, the present invention allowsthe userto rotate the toaster horizontal orinclined to rest on supportfeet. If the usertried to toast cheese on toast in a conventional toasterwhile sittingon the side the melted cheesecould fall onto the element below. This invention allows the lowerelementto switch off automatically when the toasteris laid horizontal thus onlygri llingthe uppersurface of the bread. This invention also prevents debris from fal Ii ngontothe lowerelement as the bread with cheese is placed on atray that is inserted intothe toaster,the action of pushing the tray intothe toasteroperates a switch which switches on the element, hence the toastercannot be used withoutthe tray inserted. The toaster has a mechanism with a damperto a low the toasted or grilled productto be ejected from the toasterin a controlled manner

An example of the invention will now be described with the aid ofa description with accompanying drawings.
An electrictoasterthatcan be turned on its side to give the facilitytogril I bread or bread with cheese/food on. The toasterhas supportfeet on the bottom and on the side of the device (1), 50 that when it isturned on its side as well as uprightit is stable. A conventional electrictoasterhas two heatingelements eitherside of the bread, this invention has elements eitherside of the bread (2), but when it is moved from the vertical to the horizontal/inclined position a switch operates so that the lowerelementwithin the gril lingchamberis switched off, thus onlythe topsurface of the bread willgrill(3).
There is a riskof food fal lingontothe lowergril I if it is placed into a conventional toasterasthere is no barrierfrom stoppingthe food from falling. A heat resistant lipped tray (4) is used to place the foodon and this is pushed intothetoasterwhenitisinthe horizontalorinclined position.Thistray will preventthefoodfromfallingontothelowerelement.Thetrayhasairventslots(5) toallowair to flow through the grilling chamber. The action of slidingthe tray intothe toaster operates a switch (6) to turn on the heatingelementabove the bread and activate a timer. Once the timer has finished or the operatorpressesthe stop button to cancel the grilling process, the traywith the grilled food is ejected in a controlled mannerfrom the gril lingchamber.
