Abstract
252,034. Hatfield, H. S. Dec. 8, 1924. Magnetic separators. - A magnetic sieve B formed of fine tinned iron wires stretched radially by being soldered to brass rings C<1>, C<2> is attached to the periphery of a disc A of non-magnetic material which is so mounted with relation to the poles of an electromagnet NS that the sieve B passes through the space between the poles. The pulp or mixture of powdered ore and water is fed in the hopper E, and the non-magnetic particles fall through the sieve B and are swept into the outlet G of a tank D filled with water. The magnetic particles are carried round by the sieve B and drop into the tank D and pass therefrom by an outlet H. The amount of outflow through the openings G, H may be controlled, and if the particles of ore &c. are very fine the pole S may be perforated to provide a second outlet for the water carrying the non-magnetic material. In a modification, the sieve B is in the form of a cylindrical cage secured round an iron roller and rotating between the poles of a magnet, the lower pole provided with separate openings for the discharge of the magnetic and non-magnetic material respectively. When used for treating dry material, the tank D is dispensed with.
