Abstract

Road - traffic signals on vehicles.-A vehicle lamp adapted to function, when required, as a direction indicator as well as an ordinary lamp is provided with a light chamber and one or more compartments communicating therewith by an aperture or apertures, which may be closed completely by a pivoted shutter. In one form a side light c mounted by pillars b, Fig. 1, on the front mud-guard a is provided with an extended part c<1> having a coloured glass front e and normally separated from the interior of the light chamber by a hinged curved partition h capable of being moved by means of a flexible connection s in opposition to a spring n to allow light to pass to the part c<1> for directional purposes. The lamp may be provided with an exterior r containing coloured transparent material visible at the side and rear of the vehicle. In modifications, the lamp may be provided with a single lens or transparency divided into two halves by a movable partition when in the closed position, or a directional lens may be arranged on each side of the ordinary lens, or back lights may be illuminated simultaneously with the illumination of the directional section of the compound lamp.
