Abstract

250,980. Sargeant, J. M. April 18, 1925, [Convention date]. Moulding walls in situ.- Thin concrete wall portions are cast in moulds in a horizontal position and are raised into the vertical position for erection on a concrete foundation previously prepared. Tubular uprights 16 are secured in sockets 15 bolted to the concrete foundation, and carry upper and lower journal castings 43, 19 which are clamped to the post at the desired positions. A trussed pivot shaft 46 is carried by the upper brackets of a pair of posts and this shaft supports a number of bearing arms 56 which receive cross-bars 58 acting as bearers for the mould frame, which is adjustable for different sizes of wall blocks. The cross-bars are trussed to adjust the tension and are tied together at their ends by bars 60 to which cables 41, 42 are attached for rotating the frame from the horizontal to the vertical position. Each cable is tensioned by passing around an upper drum 54. The lower journal castings carry a cross shaft 31 to which are secured the drums 40 for the cables and eccentrics 35, and operating shafts. The cross shaft is rotated by gearing 30, 32 from the operating shafts and the mould is rocked during casting by the eccentrics 35 and rods 63. Screw-adjusting lifting rods 68 are also secured to the eccentric sheaves so that the mould, when turned into the vertical position, may be lowered to deposit the cast wall upon the foundation. In a modification, the mould is positioned wholly over the cast foundation so that trees and other objects near to the foundation do not interfere with the casting operation. For this purpose, channelled bars 72 are supported by the screw adjusting rods 68 from the eccentrics and the upper journal castings 69 are provided with runners 71 to run in the channels, and the cables 41, 42 are operated to tilt the mould and also to draw the journal casting from the moulding position, shown in Fig. 8, to the depositing position over one of the posts 16. The cast wall is retained on the mould during the tilting operation by screw adjusting rods 66 on the mould support engaging the reinforcement 67 in the wall.
