Abstract

A multi-hulled sea-borne vessel includes a main deck 10 on which there is means for the transfer of goods loaded on to one end of the vessel to the other end of the vessel and an upper deck which includes a wheelhouse 11 beneath which the goods pass during transfer thereof from one end of the vessel to the other. The vessel may be a catamaran with an engine room and fuel storage facilities in each hull. The means for the transfer of goods may include a pair of parallel rails (15 and 16, Fig 3) that extend from fore to aft of the catamaran. The upper deck may further include a galley 12 behind the wheelhouse and steps 13 and 14 may be provided on either side of the catamaran for movement of crew between the main and upper decks. A method of using the vessel to transport supplies to an off-shore windfarm is also disclosed.

Description

SEA-BORNE VESSELS
Field of the Invention
This invention relates to sea-borne vessels and has for its object the provision of an improved form of sea-borne vessel that is particularly suitable for use, inter alia, as a supply and support vessel for offshore windfarms.
Summary of the Invention
According to the present invention there is provided a multi-hulled sea-borne vessel which includes a main deck on which there is means for the transfer of goods loaded on to one end of the vessel to the other end of the vessel and an upper deck which includes a wheelhouse beneath which the goods pass during transfer thereof from one end of the vessel to the other.
The multi-hulled sea-borne vessel is preferably a catamaran and the means for the transfer of goods preferably includes a pair of parallel rails extending from fore to aft of the catamaran for the convenient transfer of containers from one end of the vessel to the other.
The upper deck preferably includes a galley disposed behind the wheel house with steps on either side of the catamaran for movement of the crew and/or passengers between the main deck and the upper deck.
There is preferably an engine room and fuel storage facilities in each hull of the catamaran.
Brief Description of the Drawings
Figure 1 is a side view of a windfarm support vessel in accordance with the present invention, Figure 2 is a plan view of the support vessel shown in Figure 1, Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the support vessel shown in Figures 1 and 2, and Figure 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the support vessel showing a container being transported by the support vessel.
Description of the Preferred Embodiment
The windfarm support vessel shown in the drawings is a catamaran, the overall appearance of which can be seen from the four figures of the drawings.
There is a facility for loading goods, e.g. containers, onto the front of the catamaran and transferring the goods to the rear of the catamaran, the flow of goods along the central axis of the main deck (shown in Figure 3) of the catamaran passing beneath the wheelhouse 11, which is on the upper deck of the catamaran. Behind the wheelhouse 11, there is a galley 12 with passenger facilities.
There are steps 13 and 14 leading down from the galley 12 to the main deck 10.
On the main deck 10, there are two parallel rails 15 and 16 and the arrangement is such that, when a container mounted on rollers is placed on the forward part of the main deck 10, it can be pushed rearwardly to pass beneath the wheelhouse 11 SO that, when the catamaran arrives at an off-shore windfarm or other off-shore facility, the containers that have been loaded onto the forward end of the catamaran can be unloaded from the rear of the catamaran.
In the hulls of the catamaran, there are two engine rooms, fuel storage facilities and cabins for the crew of the catamaran.
The catamaran shown in the drawings and having the facilities described above will thus be capable of providing effective support for windfarms and other off-shore facilities.
