Abstract

Anti-bacterial films 10 may be removed from a stack when required, preferably be peeling, using tab 11. The bottom sheet is preferably adhesively bonded to a surface or release sheet 12. The films 10 are preferably releasably bonded together by vacuum, low tack adhesive 10A or electrostatic forces. Preferably, each film 10 is formed by co-extruding three polypropylene layers. Preferably, the top and bottom layers contain antimicrobial agents and the middle layer has a blue tint. The application discloses the use of solvent free polyurethane adhesive 10A and silicone coated honey gassine backing paper as the release sheet 12. The film stack may be used to protect worktops and breadboards, and to prevent contamination of medical or dental components. The stack may also be bonded to hospital doors or refuse bin lids.

Description

TITLE: Stack of Sheets of Protective Sheet Material The present invention relates to a stack of sheets of protective sheet material.
It is often desirable to protect the surface from objects or operation performed (e.g. protecting a worktop from knife scratches when cutting bread on a worktop). In such circumstances a breadboard is used, but the breadboard needs to be cleaned afterwards which is time consuming. It is often desirable to prevent the surface from contaminating objects placed thereon (e.g. when placing medical or dental components on a surface). In such circumstances the surface needs to be thoroughly cleaned.
The invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a stack of disposable sheets of protective material with each sheet of material forming an anti-bacteria bather layer.
Preferably each sheet is adapted to be peeled away from a sheet below it.
Preferably each sheet has a finger tab to peel a sheet away from a sheet below it.
Preferably the bottom sheet has a bottom face coated with adhesive to bond to a surface.
Preferably the bottom sheet is prior to use, bonded to a release sheet, whereby in use the release sheet can be removed and the adhesive exposed to bend to a surface.
Preferably each sheet is formed as a co-extrusion of three sub-sheets.
The three sub-sheets may be formed from a top polypropylene film with anti-bacterial agent (polybatch abact), a middle polypropylene film with blue tint, and a bottom polypropylene film with anti-bacterial agent olybatch abact). The polypropylene films may be based upon commercially standard grades of pellets (resin when melted) but which have been tailored for medical or food use.
Each sheet may be releasably bonded together. They may be bonded together by vacuum adhesive (such as a low tack adhesive), or by electrostatic forces.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a stack prior to use, and Figure 2 shows a process for making a sheet.
Referring to Figure 1, there is showm a stack I often (or other number) disposable rectangular sheets 10 of protective material, with each sheet 10 of material forming a microbial barrier layer.
Preferably each sheet 10 is adapted to be peeled away from a sheet below it and each sheet has a finger tab Ito help peel a sheet away from a sheet below it. Each sheet 10 may be releasably bonded together to keep them in the stack, e.g. by vacuum, adhesive (such as a low tack adhesive), or by electrostatic forces. A suitable adhesive being used to keep each sheet together may be a solvent free polyurethane adhesive. In addition to the adhesive, the surface of each sheet may be treated on one side allowing adhesive to bond to one side and release on a non-treated side of an adjacent sheet.
The bottom sheet 10 has a bottom thce IOA coated with adhesive to bond to a surface, such as a worktop. A typical adhesive could be a water based acrylic emulsion adhesive with a weight of IOgms/sqm. Such an adhesive on the face 1 OA of the bottom sheet allows the bottom sheet to be removed from an applied surface without leaving multiple patches of adhesive residue.
The bottom sheet 10 is, prior to use, bonded to a release sheet 12, whereby in use the release sheet can be removed and the adhesive exposed to bond to the surface. The release sheet may be a silicone-coated honey glassine backing paper.
In use the stack of sheets may be placed on a worktop (or other surface). An operation (such as the making of a sandwich) can be performed on the top sheet 10 which may become soiled in the process of the operation. The top sheet 10 can then be peeled away and discarded, exposing a fresh sheet 10 to perform another operation. Each top sheet is impervious to prevent the sheet below becoming soiled.
The stack of sheet has many uses to prevent a surface becoming soiled by an operation, e.g. as in sandwich making, or to obviate the need to keep cleaning the surface. A stack of sheets may for example be used on a worktop in a medical or dental environment to maintain a clean surface to place instruments or components. A stack of sheets could be bonded to a hospital door or refuse bin lid, and sheets peeled off to expose a clean sheet as required. The sheets 10 collect dirt and grime, are ant-bacterial, reduce cleaning time, and reduce causes of infection.
Although shown rectangular in the drawing, the sheets could be another shape or size to suit placement on different surfaces.
Preferably each sheet 10 is formed as a co-extrusion of three sub-sheets X,Y,Z off rollers 20X,20Y,20Z as shown in Figure 2. The three sheets may be co-extruded through rollers 30A,30B. The three sub-sheets may be formed from a top polypropylene film with anti-bacterial agent (such as polybatch abact) X, a middle polypropylene film with blue tint Y, and a bottom polypropylene film with anti-bacterial agent (such as polybatch abact) Z. The polypropylene films may be based upon commercially standard grades of pellets (resin when melted) but which have been tailored for medical or food use.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
