Abstract

An adjustable blood bag adaptor comprising of two inserts within an adaptor frame; insert A comprising of three sides set within the rigid frame and insert B which makes the fourth side of the adapter and has variable sized inserts so as to accommodate blood bags of varying sizes. In use, the adapter is suitable for securely supporting variable sizes of blood bags in a centrifuge bucket when spun at high G forces in the horizontal plane when spun in a swing out rotor system.

Description:
The adaptor frame slots straight into the centrifuge bucket. This leaves a space on either side of the adaptor frame for the storage of any additional bags or tubes attached to the bag without the risk of them coiling up against the primary bag and damaging the bag or preventing the liquid within it from being able to move freely inside the bag and separate properly during centrifugation.
Inside the frame, a two-part insert is placed. One part of the insert (insert part A) is of a constant size and makes up 3 sides of the finished adaptor. The other part of the insert (insert part B) completes the adaptor. Insert part B is manufactured in varying thicknesses, so that when assembled by the user, the adaptor's cavity will be the right volume to accommodate and firmly support each individual bag. Different sizes of insert part B will be marked on the insert part accordingly and are interchangeable.
