Abstract

Manufactured blocks which are uniform in design for bunker revetting. The blocks may be provided with slits 1 that make them pliable and may be formed of a material that is resistant to the elements, golf balls, golf clubs and animals. The blocks may be provided with markings 2 that act as a placement guide to assist a user in construction of a bunker. The blocks may have holes 3 in them to allow root development of plants grown over the blocks. The depth of the block may be deeper in some places to provide raised edges 4 that in use retain backfill material (6, Fig 5) such as soil or sand on the blocks.

Description

Description
Bunker Blocks
Background
This invention relates to a manufactured block for making golf course bunkers.
On a golf course traditionally bunkers are made from pieces of cut turf. The steps to make a bunker are to systematically lay the turves next to one another and then on top of one another similar to building a wall with bricks.
However, using conventional and traditional methods can lead to a number of difficulties. The turves break down relatively quickly due to exposure to the elements. The turves are damaged through being struck by golf balls and golf clubs.
Burrowing animals dig into the turves and damage the bunker face. All these difficulties weaken the structure of the bunker as well as making them aesthetically unpleasant. Difficulties are also experienced as turves are not consistently uniform in size and I or shape. During construction, inconsistencies in the turves mean that it is difficult to maintain the uniformity of the layering and the angle of the face of the bunker.
Statement of invention
To overcome these problems the present invention proposes that a long lasting pliable manufactured block is used instead of cut turf for construction of bunkers.
Advantages The block would be pliable and uniform in design and will minimise the rebound of a golf ball.
Preferably the block will be resistant to damaging effects of the elements, weather, golf balls, golf clubs and animals.
Preferably the block will be long lasting and have a greater resistance to damage than turf.
Preferably the block will have holes to allow for root growth.
Preferably the block will be marked with a guide to assist with uniform placement.
Preferably the face of the block will be raised to allow for backfill.
Introduction to drawings
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 -shows a bunker block, which is pliable and uniform in design with slits 1, to aid pliability Figure 2 -shows a bunker block, which is pliable and uniform in design with slits 1, to aid pliability and an additional feature of a markings guide 2, to aid with uniform placement.
Figure 3 -shows a bunker block, which is pliable and uniform in design with slits 1, to aid pliability, with a markings guide 2, to aid with uniform placement and an additional feature of holes 3, to allow for root growth Figure 4 -shows a bunker block, which is pliable and uniform in design with slits 1, to aid pliability, with a markings guide 2, to aid with uniform placement, with holes 3 to allow for root growth and an additional feature where the face of the block is raised 4, to allow a backfill material eg soil or sand to be placed between blocks.
Figure 5 -shows a constructed bunker using the invention as described in figure 4.
The drawing shows the uniform face angle 5, obtained through using marking guide 2, with backfill material. The drawing shows the bunker blocks, 6 shows the backfill material e.g. soil or sand, and 7 shows turf laid on top of bunker blocks.
