Abstract

Perforating and dividing by fusion. -In a blowpipe machine for cutting metals of the type in which the movements of the blowpipe are controlled by mechanism connected to a wheel &c. moved over a drawing, templet &c. the blowpipe is connected to a movable device adjacent the wheel &c. so as to direct the position of the blowpipe in order to effect a straight circular, or angular cut of bevel form. The tracer 4 may co-operate with a drawing, template &c. on a table c at the side of or as shown, above the inclined blowpipe 19. The tracer 4 and blowpipe 19 are respectively carried by the members 1, 2 of a bifurcated arm which is pivoted to a turntable bracket e. The tracer wheel may be rotated by gearing 6 from an electric motor 5 and is mounted in bearings rigid with a toothed wheel 7 and hand grip 3. The wheel 7 is connected by a flexible shaft or by gearing 8 .. 16 with a toothed wheel 17 meshing with a toothed ring 20<a> on a sleeve 20 carrying the blowpipe so that rotation of the hand grip communicates a similar rotation to the sleeve 20 and. so directs the position of the blowpipes. The blowpipe is supported by a flange 19<a> and turnably mounted in one of a number of exchangeable holders 18 for holding the blowpipe at different angles, which may be vertically adjustable in the sleeve 20 by a rack and worm or pinion 21. The tracer wheel may be directed mechanically instead of by hand by using a radius bar for circular openings or by using a magnetic wheel carrier co-operating with an iron or steel templet. The wheel may be replaced by a pointer eccentrically mounted on the carrier and supported by a horizontal roller or by a vertical eccentrically mounted roller directed by hand or magnetized to engage a templet. The blowpipe and tracer may be mounted so as to obtain a cut of different size from the pattern. Specification 226,846 is referred to.
