Abstract

The strip comprises an elongate strip 3, 4 having a channel in its upper face in use, characterised in that the channel holds a section of vinyl flooring 1 so to match the vinyl flooring 6 installed in the surrounding area. The strip 3, 4 will be made from clear or transparent plastic, which in use will make the desired floor finish visible through the vinyl floor edge strip along its length, which is intended to therefore minimise the visibility of the vinyl floor edge strip itself. The section of vinyl flooring 1 is held securely in use by wings 2. The edge strip may further comprise a plurality of pieces 3, 4 having complimentary profiles 5, such that in use variation in height may be achieved when joining different floor heights.

Description

VINYL FLOOR EDGE STRIP
The present invention relates to floor edge strip, more particularly a strip appropriate for the edge of vinyl flooring.
An increasing number of vinyt flooring types and patterns are currently available, Given this choice many homeowners, furnishers or users may opt for a variety of vinyl floorings within one building. Even if the flooring is the same Fri all rooms it is often common that the flooring will be joined at doorways, sometimes due to different floor heights between rooms, sometime due to consumer preference. This can mean unsightly joins between the rooms and it is common to use edging or joining strips to join or edge the flooring in these circumstances, and to prevent fraying and catching.
These strips are typically formed in metal, plastic or wood, with either catching teeth or lips. They serve to clearly delineate the end of or a transition of flooring but may be considered unsightly, unfinished and aesthetically unappealing. Due to the many finhing patterns within the vinyl flooring range it is even harder to provide a matching colour or patterned floor edge strip to suit the finished vinyl flooring installed.
To overcome this aesthetically unappealing problem with current floor edge strips available, the present invention proposes a vinyl floor edge strip with a channel in its upper most face in use; the channel has a means of holding and bending a section of vinyl flooring so to match the vinyl flooring installed.
According to the present invention the section of vinyl flooring is held securely in use, and held in such a way as to cover a substantial portion of the vinyl floor edge strip with the section of vinyl flooring.
According to the present invention the vinyl floor edge strip will be made from a durable clear/transparent plastic as to make the desired floor fnish visible through the vinyl floor edge strip along its length this will therefore minimise the visibility of the vinyl floor edge strip itsetf.
The vinyl floor edge strip may consequently be used for providing a neat aesthetically pleasmg edge to vinyl flooring or an attractive joint between vinyl flooring and other flooring methods.
Typically the vinyl floor edge strip is formed from one master piece of extruded clear plastic material which requires one of the two other optional pieces of extruded clear plastic material, in order that variation may be achieved, or greater flexibility in attaching the vinyl floor edge strip to the flor due to room finished flooring height differences.
The invention will now be deathbed solely by way of example and with reference to accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the master piece of extruded clear plastic which will be used in all flooring cases.
Figure 2 shows the optional piece of extruded clear plastic used when room finished flooring is level between rooms.
Figure 3 shows the optional piece of extruded clear plastic used when room finished floorin9 heights vary between rooms.
Figure 4 shows figure 1 and figure 2 fixed together by means of complimenting profiles in a level fulished flooring situation.
Figure 5 shows figure 1 and figure 3 fixed together by means of complimenting profiles in a varying level finished flooring situation.
Figure 6 shows section of Vnyi flooring I with angular cut 2 into height (thickness of vinyl) to suit installation into vinyl floor edge strip.
Figure 7 shows figure 4 holding section of vinyl flooring I with viewing eyes 2 observing finished floor through edge of vinyl floor edge strip in 3D view.
Figure 8 shows figure 5 holding section of vinyl flooring 1 with viewing eyes 2 observing finished floor through edge of vinyl floor edge strip in 3D view, Figure 9 shows figure 4 fixed to floor via fixing screw 2 sitting in counterbore hole 1, ri figure 4, the section of vinyl flooring I is held in position by angled inner wings 2 thus the section of vinyl flooring 1 must be cut to appropriate size and also with vinyl edge cut at ane to compliment good fit with angled inner wings 2 of viny] floor edge strip (see figure 6). Vinyl floor edge strip 3 and 4 are held together at complimenting profile joint 5. Vinyl floor edge strip 3 and 4 are fixed to main floor surface 7 via countersunk fixing screws (see figure 9). Etevaled part of vinyl floor edge strip B sits on finished floor surfaces 6.
In figure 5. the section of vinyl flooring 1 is held in position by angled inner wings 2 thus the section of vinyl flooring I must be cut to appropriate size and also with vinyl edge cut at angle to compliment good fit with angled inner wings 2 of vinyl floor edge strip (see figure 6). Vinyl floor edge strip 3 and 4 are held together at complimenting profile joint 5. Vinyl floor edge strip 3 and 4 are fixed to main floor surface 7 via spacer 10 and countersunk fixing screws (see figure 9). Elevated part of vinyl floor edge strip B sits on finished floor surfaces 6. Dropped part of vinyl floor edge strip 9 sits on lower finished floor level 7.
