Abstract
A door handle dispensing mechanism is disclosed for delivering a sanitising fluid onto the surface of a door handle, such as the handle of a toilet. The fluid is delivered by mechanical means. The device may be fitted to an existing door 12 without adaptation of the door. The fluid may be delivered due to the action of gravity. The dispensing of the fluid may be triggered by actuation of the handle. A lockable tank 10 to contain the sanitising fluid may be provided. The fluid may flow to the handles surface through a fluid delivery passage 4 and fluid holes 5 in the door handle. The device can work without an electricity supply, battery or gas canister.
Description
PATENT APPLICATION-SANIHANDLE
TITLE
A door handle dispenser mechanism for delivering an antiseptic solution onto the handle's surface.
BACKGROUND
When a person leaves a toilet after use, they ought to wash their hands. This is necessary for personal hygiene protection and prevents the spread of infection. However, there is no foolproof method for ensuring that toilet users leave a toilet [room] with clean hands. To overcome these problems, a method that involuntarily dispenses a sanitizing fluid onto a person's hand is required.
A STATEMENT OF INVENTION
A door-handle dispenser mechanism that delivers a sanitizing fluid onto a door handle surface when the handle is activated.
ADVANTAGES
The invention has the advantage that the sanitizing fluid is dispensed only when the inside toilet door handle is activated and the fluid is delivered onto the surface of the handle itself.
Because the delivery of the fluid onto the person's hand is involuntary' (it requires no deliberate act on the part of an individual) it ensures that a toilet user cannot leave the toilet without receiving sanitizing fluid onto their hand.
The complete mechanism is mechanical, rather than electronic and requires no mains electricity supply, batteries or gas canister to power it.
The complete mechanism can be mounted on the surface of an existing door, with no adaptation of the door itself.
The existing handle mechanism can be adapted using the existing spindle bar and handle assembly. It is easily installed requiring no special tools.
INTRODUCTION TO DRAWINGS
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: DRAWING No. 1. Shows the Front View of the door-mounted dispenser unit including a lockable tank, and handle mechanism, (for an inside left handle).
Figure 1. Detail A. Shows a detailed Cross Section of the tank, handle mechanism and valve in open position.
Figure 2. Detail B, Shows the ratchet in the handle mechanism.
DRAWING No. 2. Shows the Front View of the door-mounted dispenser unit including a lockable tank, and handle mechanism, (for an inside left handle).
Figure 3. Shows a Section View of the complete dispenser unit including tank and handle (valve in open position) handle depressed.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The dispenser unit is always attached to the inside of the toilet [room] door.
In Drawing No. 1, in Cross Section is shown a Left Handle door-mounted dispenser unit, comprising a lockable tank to accept the sanitizing fluid and a perforated handle with cylindrical barrel. The barrel is machined to fit an aperture at the base of the tank. A valve (in open position) is shown that delivers the fluid from the tank to the barrel, (within which is a sanitizing Fluid Delivery Passage). Also shown is a ratchet mechanism inside the barrel and the spindle bar inserted into it.
Figure 1-Detail A, shows an Open Valve [1] between the tank and the Fluid Delivery Passage [4] inside the barrel, the Tank Casting [2] and a Spring Mechanism [3] to return the handle to the horizontal position. Also shown is a handle with Fluid Holes [5], a Cir Clip [6] to hold the handle in place and a Spindle Bar [8] that connects the inside and outside handles.
Figure 2-Detail B, shows the ratchet mechanism [9] inside the handle barrel. The ratchet mechanism allows the outside handle to operate singularly [independently] for people entering the toilet [room], so that no sanitizing fluid is released (on the inside handle) yet still opens the door.
Figure 3-shows a Section View with Open Valve [1] between the tank and the Fluid Delivery Passage [4], the Tank Casting [2], Spring Mechanism (to return the handle to the horizontal position) [383], Fluid Holes in the handle [5], Cir Clip [6], Spindle Bar [8], Ratchet Mechanism [9], Lockable Lid to Tank [10], Tank Lock Mechanism [11], Door [12], Existing Door Mechanism [13] and Flange [14].
When the inside door handle is activated [depressed] to exit the door from the toilet [room], the hole in the barrel (Fluid Delivery Passage [4]) will mate with the hole at the base of the tank and will accept the fluid, which will flow through the Fluid Delivery Passage and out through the Fluid Holes [5] in the handle and so onto the user's hand.
Figure 3 shows a Front View of a left handle on a right-handed door. For a right handle mechanism the handle mechanism would have to be reversed, including the ratchet.
