Abstract

A retractable additional half step for use with a flight of stairs comprises a plank 1 attached at one end by a hinge 2 to a side panel 3 provided with holes for fastening to a staircase side wall 4. The other end of the plank 1 is fixed to a riser board 5 designed to stand erect on a stair tread 6 when the half step is deployed. The hinge 2 enables the plank 1 to be folded up against the side wall up to clear the flight for normal use. The additional half step can help users with weak legs strong enough for half a stair rise. The side panel; and riser board may be the same height so that the device is self-aligning and levelling for quick DIY installation. The half step may be held securely in the retracted, folded up position by provision of magnetic or catch holding means. The riser board may be fixe to the plank by hinges so that it folds down against the plank when the half step is retracted by folding up.

Description

Retractable, Half Step, Stair Climb Aid FIIELI) OF THE INVENTION: The present invention relates to a Retractable, Half Step, Stair Climb Aid, for installation on stairs, to help users with weak legs strong enough for haifa stair rise.
The product is cheap, light, self-levelling, self-aligning, retracts up to clear the stairs for normal use yet simple enough for a DIY person to install in minutes.
Applicant's interpretation of terms used in this Citation: "Stair rLce" .me step height of a stair.
"Half Step" -a step that is half the height of a normal stair height.
PROBLEM & PRESENT STATE OF TILE ART: Although several half step patents exist and half step products are on sale, all are heavy, expensive solid blocks fixed to the stairs, and lack retractable features to clear the stairs for normal use when desired.
SOLUTION & OBJECT OF PRESENT INVENTION.
The object of the present invention is to overcome the above problems by providing a Retractable, Half Step, Stair Climb Aid, to help users with weak legs, with a product that is cheap, light, self-levelling, self-aligning, securely retracts up to clear the stairs for normal use when desired; yet simple enough for DIY installation using just a bradawl, screw driver and screws supplied.
World Patent Search -No Anticintions: At the time of filing, a World Patent Database Search carried out on the espQjcenet website showed no prior art for a Retractable, Half Step, Stair Climbing Apparatus, as cited in the present application.
Worki Product Search -No Anticipations: At time of filing, a World Product Search carried out on the World Wide Web showed vso prior art for a Retractable, Half Step, Stair Climb Aid, as cited in present application.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION:
A Retractable, Half Step, Stair Climb Aid, for installation on stairs to help users with weak legs, comprises a plank attached at one end by a hinge to a side panel provided with holes, lbr fastening to a staircase side wall, the other end of the plank is fixed to a riser board, designed to stand erect on the stair tread, the hinge & catches provided enable the plank to securely retract up to clear stairs for normal use when desired.
USES & ADVANTAGES: 1. To help users with weak legs strong enough for half a stair rise.
2. Simple, Cheap, Self-Aligning & Levelling for quick IDlY installation.
3. Securely retracts up to clear stairs for normal use when desired.

DESCRIPTION
Referring to the drawings, the present invention titled "Retractable, Half Step, Stair Climb Aid", for installation on stairs to help users with weak legs, comprises a small plank, I, attached at one end, is, by hinged means, 2, to a side panel, 3, provided with holes, 3h, for fastening to a staircase side wall, 4; the other end, Ir, of the plank, 1, is fixed to a riser board, 5, designed to stand erect on a stair tread, 6. the hinge, 2, enables the plank. 1, to retract up to clear the stairs for nonnal use.
2. The width of the plank, 1, is a about quarter of a stair width and the levelled height is haifa stair riser height.
3. The material for the plank, I, hinged means, 2, side panel, 3, & riser board, 5, include wood, metal & plastics, of homogeneous, integral, composite, solid, hollow, thbricated & integral construction, and specifically an integral hinge/side panel, 8, Fig 3a & Fig 3b.
4. The hinge means, includes plain hinges, 2, hinges with magnet hold, 2m, Figs 1 a / lb. gravity only hold, Fig 2a / 2b, & ball catch hold, lbc, Fig 3a I 3b, all to hold plank, 1, retracted up to clear stairs for normal use when desired.
5. The height & width of the side panel, 3, is so provided that the plank, 1, is self levelling & self-aligning, respectively for quick, accurate DIY installation -Fig 4.
6. Optionally, to reduce obstruction when refracted up, the riser board, 12, is secured to plank, I, by hinged means, 13, enabling the riser board, 12, to fold down to further clear stairs, Fig 5, for normal use when desired.
