Abstract

249,423. Clorius, O. T. Oct. 9, 1925. Thermometers.-The evaporation of a volatile liquid over a more or less prolonged period is utilized to indicate the mean temperature in a room, hotwater system, &c. during that period. In the form shown in Fig. I. a tube 2 mounted on a plate 1 contains the liquid and its open mouth is covered by a perforated cap 4 through which the vapour escapes. The plate 1 is marked with a temperature scale 7 and with a mark 8 to which the liquid is initially filled. Fig. V. shows another form in which the liquid-containing vessel 27 rests on a shelf 26 on a plate 25. A narrow tube 31 above the liquid surface dips into the upper end of a tube 29 the lower end of which passes into the liquid. The apparatus is enclosed by a perforated screen 32 and the temperature is indicated by the level of the liquid in the tube 29.
