Abstract

A wheel bearing unit having a wheel hub 4 connected to a universal joint body 2 is provided, wherein the wheel hub 4 is connected by means of a plurality of circumferentially spaced clamping screws 9 to an outer joint part 5 of the universal joint shaft. As the clamping screws 9 are tightened, there is an elastic deformation of the outside diameter of the externally splined outer joint part 6 relative to the splined wheel hub and a resulting play-free fixing of the universal joint shaft spline system in the wheel hub as well as axial clamping of the bearing inner rings 10, 11 on the wheel hub sleeve H.

Description

Wheel bearing unit The invention relates to a wheel bearing unit having a wheel hub connected to a joint body of a universal joint shaft.
EP 1 526 297 Al has disclosed a wheel hub having an outer joint part of a rotary constant velocity joint, in which the outer joint part is connected by means of a shaft spline system. The wheel hub is held in a hub carrier by means of a wheel bearing, and bearing inner rings of the wheel bearing are clamped axially between a front supporting surface of the wheel hub and a rear bead. This bead rests by means of an annular surface against a stop washer, with preloading by a screw.
The invention seeks to provide a wheel bearing unit for a motor vehicle having a wheel hub connected to a joint body of a universal joint shaft, in which the parts which are in engagement with one another are fixed without play relative to one another and clamped axially.
According to the invention, this can be achieved by the features of claim 1. The dependent claims contain further advantageous features.
The principal advantages achieved by means of the invention consist in that, by means of clamping means between a wheel hub and an outer joint part of a joint body, said parts are fixed elastically without play relative to one another. To achieve the play-free arrangement according to the invention, provision is made, in particular, for the outer joint part to be connected to the wheel hub, by means of a plurality of axially connected clamping screws arranged in a manner distributed over the circumference, in a manner which involves elastic deformation of the parts relative to one another, wherein bearing inner rings of a ball bearing, in particular an angular contact ball bearing, which are arranged spaced apart with respect to one another, are arranged so as to be clamped axially between a circumferential annular flange of the wheel hub and a clamping lug ring on the outer joint part.
For this purpose, the clamping screws are supported by means of a head in the annular flange cf the wheel hub and are arranged in such a way that they can be screwed into opposite threaded lugs of the outer joint part.
Moreover, the threaded lugs are arranged so as to project radially inward on a sleeve-shaped extension of the outer joint part, and the clamping lug ring is provided so as to project radially outward on the free end, remote therefrom, of the sleeve-shaped extension of the outer joint part.
Between the threaded lugs and the clamping lug ring, external splines are arranged on the outside of the sleeve-shaped extension, and internal splines, which correspond thereto, are arranged on the wheel hub sleeve, these being embodied so as to interact. When tightened, the clamping screws exert a load on the outer joint part and hence on the external spllnes of the sleeve-shaped extension of the outer joint part. At the same time, axial clamping of the bearing inner rings of the ball bearing is achieved. Overall, axial and radial clamping of the parts is produced.
According to the invention, provision is furthermore made for a plurality of clamping screws arranged in a manner distributed over the inner circumference of the wheel hub to be provided, and for the clamping screws to have a tapered or cylindrical arrangement from the wheel hub to the outer joint part. The arrangement of clamping screws set at a slightly oblique angle, in a tapered arrangement, results in an at least slight deformation of the outside diameter of the externally splined sleeve-shaped extension of the outer joint part and, as a result, play-free clamping or play-free seating of the parts relative to one another. The cylindrical arrangement of the clamping screws should likewise produce similar play-free clamping or play-free seating of the parts relative to one another.
The effects of the slight elastic deformation in the region of the spline system between the wheel hub and the outer joint part and of the axial clamping of the bearing inner rings on the wheel hub can be achieved independently or jointly.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention having a wheel bearing unit with a wheel hub and a universal joint shaft connected by means of a spline system is illustrated in the drawing and described in greater detail below.
A wheel bearing unit 1 essentially comprises a wheel hub 4, which is connected to a joint body 2 of a universal joint shaft 3, wherein the joint body 2 comprises an outer joint part 5, in particular an outer ball joint part. This is connected by means of a spline system 6 to the wheel hub 4 so as to interact therewith. The wheel hub 4 is held in a hub carrier 8 or the like by means of a ball bearing 7, in particular an angular contact ball bearing.
The outer joint part 5 is connected to the wheel hub 4 by means of a plurality of axially extending clamping screws 9 arranged in a manner distributed over the circumference of the wheel hub 4, in a manner which involves elastic deformation or fixing of the parts 4, relative to one another. The two bearing inner rings 10, 11 of the ball bearing 7 are arranged spaced apart with respect to one another on a wheel hub sleeve H of the wheel hub 4 and held firmly in position, and are arranged so as to be clamped between a circumferential annular flange 12 of the wheel hub 4 and a clamping lug ring 14 on the outer joint part 5.
The clamping screws 9 are supported by means of a head in the annular flange 12 of the wheel hub 4 and can be screwed into threaded lugs 16 of the outer joint part 5, so that, when the clamping screws 9 are tightened, the screw system results in a slight deformation by the threaded lugs 16 on the joint body 2 and a play-free connection between the spline system 6 of the parts. A plurality of spaced threaded lugs 16 corresponding to the number of clamping screws 9 is provided.
For this purpose, the threaded lugs 16 project radially inward and are arranged on the front side of a sleeve-shaped extension 17 of the outer joint part 5. The clamping lug ring 14 is arranged so as to project radially outward on the rear free end 18, remote therefrom, of the sleeve-shaped extension 17 and comes to rest at the front end on the wheel hub sleeve FE.
Between the threaded lugs 16 and the clamping lug ring 14, external splines of the spline system 6 are arranged on the outside of the sleeve-shaped extension 17, and internal splines for the universal joint shaft or for the outer joint part 5 are provided in the wheel hub sleeve H. The screw system formed by the clamping screws 9 preferably consists of a plurality of clamping screws 9 arranged in a manner distributed over the inner circumference of the wheel hub 4, wherein the clamping screws 9 can have a tapered or cylindrical arrangement from the wheel hub 4 to the outer joint part 5. The tapered arrangement of the clamping screws 9 is shown in the drawing.
In summary, it is explained that the clamping screws 9 are arranged in such a way between the wheel hub 4 and the cuter joint part 5 that, in the clamped state, i.e. when the clamping screws 9 are tightened, elastic deformation of the outside diameter, in particular, of the externally splined sleeve-shaped extension 17 and of the outer joint part 5 relative to the internally splined wheel hub sleeve H of the wheel hub 4 is possible.
The clamping screws 9 should furthermore be arranged in such a way that, in the clamped state, play-free fixing can take place between the wheel hub 4 or wheel hub sleeve H and the outer joint part 5 in the region of the spline system, i.e. between the external and internal thread of the spline system 6, and/or axial clamping of the bearing inner rings and bearing play adjustment of the ball bearing on the wheel hub sleeve H is achieved. I circular flow of force via the clamping screws 9, the sleeve-shaped extension 17 and the wheel hub sleeve H is thus achieved by means of the clamping screws 9.
