Abstract
A modified silhouette facelift surgical suture includes a modified long needle 1 with a blunt lower end (2) and an upper with a cleft, bifid structure 4. A curved slit 3 is located near the lower end. A separate polypropylene suture 7 has knots, cones and a small non-cutting needle; such that the suture 7 is stretched over the long needle 1 between the curved slit 3 and the bifid upper end 4 for surgical insertion. A silhouette suture 7 comprises ten silicone cones spaced with knots 8mm apart. Preferably the curved slit 3 accommodates the suture 7 at its terminal end but does not let the final knot pass through it. Optionally, the terminal end of the suture 7 may be fixed to the needle 1 using a tie.
Description
INTELLECTUAL
*. . PROPERTY OFFICE Applicalion No. GB1212706.4 RTM Dale:12 November 2012 The following terms are registered trademarks and should be read as such wherever they occur in this document: Silhouette facelift Silhouette suture Intellectual Properly Office is an operaling name of Ihe Patent Office www.ipo.gov.uk Modified silhouette facelift surgical suture rlhis invention relates to a modified silhouette facelift surgical suture, The use of the ordinary silhouette suture represents a minimal invasive technique for facial tissue suspension. It is composed of eight inch long needle with blunt lower end. T lie needle is made of stainless steel. A twelve inch long 3-0 polypropylene suture is attached to its terminal end, The suture contains ten silicone cones spaced with hiots eight mm apart. it is ended with a half circle non-cutting surgical needle.
The procedure involves a temporal incision for subcutaneous insertion of the sutures. The long blunt needle in inserted under the skin through the temporal incision Local anesthesia is used to perform the procedure.
The skin of the face is punctured by scalpel to get the needle out of it. This is done for each applied suture.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a modified needle which can do the task without puncturing the skin of the face. However, temporal incision is required.
Unlike the classical silhouette suture, all the sutures which are required for the proccdure can be introduced by one modified needle.
The suture is separate and includes cones and knots similar to the cones and knots of the classical silhouette suture.
The procedure may be done in a shorter time than the classical silhouette suture.
Procedure The procedure is started with subcutaneous infiltration of local anesthetic, Excess knots are cut before the start of the procedure..
The suture is applied over the face for proper decision A small temporal incision is done under a septic technique. The suture is stretched and fixed over the long needl.e between the curved slit at the blunt lower end and the bifid upper end. The needle is inserted under the skin in the required direction. When the blunt end reached the targeted point, the suture is untied of the bifid end When the needle is withdrawn the suture will stay in position by the effect of its knots and cones Surgical wax may be required to close the gap of the slit to avoid tissue trauma before needle insertion.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a moth fled long needle with a curved, slit near to its blunt lower end, and a bifid upper end, Figure 2 shows a separate polypropylene suture which is stretched over the long needle,.
Figure 3 shows possible three ways of connection between the lower end of the suture. and the curved slit, Figure 4 shows the classical silhouette suture.
in figure 1, a modified needle I is made of stainless steel is eight inch long. It meludes a blunt lower end 2 and a curved slit 3 which is 5mm. long, situated 5mm far from the blunt lower end The opening of the slit 3 is just enough to allow the suture to get in. It does not permit the knot to do so.
The long needle 1 is ended with a bifid upper end 4.
A polypropylene suture 7 is separate and contains knots 5, cones 6 and a curved. non-cuttin.g small needle 8 at its terminal end similar to the classical silhouette suture.
Figure 2 shows the polypropylene suture 7 which Is stretched over the long needle 1 between the curved slit 3 and the bifid upper end 4.
Figure 3 shows how the suture is tied to the curved slit.
In the first possibility the knot 5 is trapped. by the curved slit in the drawing on the left I he second possibility shows a small tie 9 at the end of the suture which is hooked by the curved slit in the middle drawing The third possibility shows a larger tie 10 which i.s hooked by the curved slit in the. drawing on the right.
Figure 4 shows the classical silhouette suture, The long needle I is eight inch long and is made of stainless steeL its blunt lower end 2 reduces tissue trauma on insertion A small puncture is required to get the long needle I out of the skin of the face after the insertion of the suture through the temporal incision.
The polypropylene suture 7 is 12 inch long and i*s attached to the upper end of the long needle 1 It has the knots 5 and the cones 6. There are 10 knots and 10 cones. The needle 8 which is attached to the terminal end of the suture 7 is small, half circle and non-cutting.
