Abstract

A vibration damping ceiling hanger comprises a first bracket 1 in use attached to a floor joist 6, a second bracket 3, 4 in use attached to both a ceiling beam 10 and ceiling sheet 8, and a vibration damping insulation member 7. The damper preferably comprises a rubber composite. In use the damper is positioned between the two brackets, preferably between large plates. In use, the hanger is fitted to the underside of a ceiling bearer by a screw 9 which passes through the ceiling sheet, eg plasterboard, and through an aperture in the bracket 3. In use, the hanger both suspends a ceiling from a floor joist and attenuates vibration to reduce transmitted noise.

Description

Durabella Universal Acoustic Ceiling Isolator Support Bracket.
This invention is a support bracket for use in the building of acoustic ceilings.
The invention provides acoustic Isolation between the floor above and the ceiling that it supports. It consists of three component parts. Two metal components (the bracket) and an acoustic isolator made from rubber composite. The two components are used in conjunction with the rubber composite, which fits into the slot provided, to form the isolation. The bracket can be used with all types of building support materials for example wood, steel and concrete to name the most popular.
One of the problems with noise in buildings is the need to provide an isolating facility that eliminates as much noise and vibration between floors as possible. The work must be carried out to a standard that satisfies the regulations in place at the time of building. (These standards are constantly changing and becoming increasingly more difficult to satisfy as regulations become more restrictive). This bracket system has sufficient built in isolation capabilities to cope with the most extreme requirements likely to be met and therefore solves the problem for several years to come.
The isolating system is demonstrated by a set of drawings. Drawing 1/1 shows the two metal component parts of the bracket with Fig I showing the side elevations of component 1 and Fig 2 showing the second component side elevation and base. Both drawings show the fixing holes for the bracket components.
Drawing 2/1 shows the complete assembly and how the bracket is used in practice. How the bracket is used to fit a ceiling, showing the joist, plaster board, acoustic isolator layer and ceiling bearer with the three component parts of the bracket in place.
There follows a full description of thawing 2/1 Fig 1.
The first part of the bracket 1 is fixed to a joist 6 using the fixing holes in the bracket as shown in thawing 1/1 2 Figi. Slotting the acoustic isolator 7 into the slot provided by 3 and 4 Drawing 2 Figl, assembles the bracket. The ceiling is then fixed by inserting the screw 9, through the plasterboard 8, through the fixing hole in 3 and into the ceiling-fixing bearer 10.
When these brackets are used to support a complete ceiling, the fill benefits of the system are gained and the series of brackets provide a complete suspended ceiling structure protected from vibration and the resulting sound.

Claims (6)
